Excerpt 

The evenings in Nyemouth were beautiful in the summer, when the blue sky was transformed to the most startling shades of purple, pink and red. It was Andy’s favourite time of the year, and tonight, it was even better, as he walked the South Point cliff with Jerico.

“It reminds me of all those sunsets we saw when we were at sea,” Jerico remarked.

Andy nodded his agreement. “I come up here a lot when I have the time, if I get finished at the hotel early enough. It helps me to relax. At this time of year, there’s nothing I like more.”

“It seems like you’ve always been drawn to the sea.”

“Mmm, probably. I grew up at the coast, worked on ships. I can’t imagine ever being far away from it.”

He was aware of Jerico watching him and tried to keep his gaze on the path ahead, though the temptation to turn and feast his own eyes was huge. Instead, he filled his lungs with the salty air coming from the water. Up here, the sticky heat of the hotel and the town centre was forgotten.

“What did you do?” Jerico asked. “After we lost touch. You have me at a disadvantage. You can find out about me online, everything I’ve ever done is there. But you, apart from your professional CV, there’s nothing.”

Now Andy could not resist looking at him, raising a bemused eyebrow. “So, you’ve been cyber-stalking me?”

“Doesn’t everyone?”

His brown skin looked glorious in the evening light. Andy’s mouth was dry. Jerico looked more handsome than he’d ever known him. How had they come to be here, after all this time? Andy knew he wasn’t dreaming. This was very real.

He wet his lips. “It’s a similar story to your own. I kept working at sea until I was around thirty.”

“Doing the same as before? Excursions and tours?”

“For a while, yes. But when I moved to another cruise company, an opportunity arose to join the hotel management side of the ship, and I found I enjoyed that even more. I became Deputy Hotel Manager after just two years. I loved being on the ships. I’m so glad I did all that. For a young guy in his twenties to travel the world and see all those places, how many people are lucky enough to do that?”

Jerico nodded. “It was great, though I don’t miss the force-eleven gales and ten-metre waves.”

Andy laughed. “Yeah, I think I’ve pushed those to the back of my mind and just remember the calm waters and sunsets.”

“I remember some really bad nights, trying to sing and dance while the stage was going up and down beneath my feet.” He gave a dramatic shudder and chuckled.

“But look at it now,” Andy said, gesturing to the peaceful North Sea. Tonight, there wasn’t even a white cap to ruffle its surface. “When I see it like this, I do miss being out there.”

“Would you ever go back? To working on the ships?”

“Nah. Been there, done that. I’m happy here. I’ve got my dream job and my family close by. I’ve seen almost all the world has to offer, so now I’m content to stay home. How about you?”

“I’ve done a couple of themed culinary cruises in the last few years—guest speaking and cookery demonstrations, that kind of thing. It’s a lot different on the other side. The guest staterooms are a lot nicer than those tiny crew cabins we had to stay in.”

“I’ll bet. That’s something I’ve never done, experiencing a cruise ship from a passenger perspective. I imagine it’s a different world from what we were used to.”

“Yeah, but when you’re young, you don’t care, do you? You just need a place to sleep and shag. They could have put me in a cupboard, and I’d have been happy.” He gave Andy a flirtatious wink.

“I remember what you were like, all right.”

They paused and stood side by side and looking out to sea together. For a moment, Andy lost himself in those memories…of standing on the deck of a ship or the shores of exotic countries with Jerico. Were those the best days of his life? No, he decided. The best days were still ahead of him. Be positive and keep moving forward.

It had gone eight o’clock. “I’m getting hungry,” he said. “Do you fancy something to eat?”

“Starving,” Jerico said. “What do you suggest?”

A few moments later, a door on the right opened and a man stepped out. He caught Dalton’s attention straight away. Dressed in jeans, a black T-shirt and a dark overshirt, the man looked nothing like the pretentious people he’d encountered so far this evening. He was also very handsome, which didn’t hurt. He was naturally good-looking, with brown hair, slightly wavy on the top and cut short at the back and sides where it was starting to turn grey. He had a serious-looking face, and Dalton’s initial impression was of something quite sad about his eyes and downturned mouth.

“Hi,” Dalton said cheerfully, hoping the guy wouldn’t turn out to be like all the other guests.

“Hello.” The man didn’t return the smile, but seemingly noticing Dalton’s interest in the photographs, he came closer. “Do you like them?”

There was a trace of an accent there. Dalton couldn’t quite place it. Eastern European, he guessed.

 “Very much,” he replied. “They’re remarkable. I’ve never seen Catherine like this before.”

The man looked between Dalton and photographs. “I’m glad you like them. I took all of these.”

Up close, he was even better looking than his first appearance. His eyes were dark grey and there was stubble on his square jaw, also flecked with grey.

“Wow,” Dalton said. “They are sensational…really.”

At last, his mouth turned upwards into the smallest suggestion of a smile.

“Thank you.” He held out his hand. “My name is Antoni.”

Dalton accepted the handshake. The party had finally improved.

Cold Day Dawning is the fourth book in my Jagged Shores series. Reader’s familiar with the series will know that the stories all take place in the seaside town Nyemouth. Nyemouth is a fictional town, based on a handful of different places on the north east coast of England.

I grew up in Northumberland in a small town called Newbiggin by the Sea. It was the most perfect place to be as a child, with it’s gorgeous bay and nearby moors. I used to lose myself for hours playing on the beach and among the rocks when I was a kid. Of course, when I was a teenager, I thought it was the most boring place in the world and couldn’t wait to leave for a more exciting city life. But like most people, as I get older, I appreciate my home town more and more. I love being on the coast and my number one plan upon retirement is to move back there. In the meantime, I created Nyemouth so I can indulge all my seaside fantasies.

If Nyemouth were a real place, it would be situated a little further north than Newbiggin, somewhere between the towns of Amble and Bamburgh. The general geography of the Nyemouth is inspired by the Yorkshire town of Whitby – made famous by Bram Stoker as the place where Dracula first comes ashore in England. Whitby is my favourite holiday destination in the UK, and I based a lot of Nyemouth on that – a valley with a river running through to the open sea, hotels, restaurants, the twin piers which protect the harbour from the wild North Sea. I threw in elements from other towns, all along the coast to make Nyemouth my dream location.

In Cold Day Dawning, Dalton Caine arrives in Nyemouth for a few days to attend a party given by his sister, Catherine. At the party, Dalton meets Antoni, a local photographer and artist, with who he feels an instant connection. Their relationship has barely begun when Catherine goes missing and Dalton must prolong his stay to find out what has happened to her. Catherine has a history of disappearing and he isn’t initially concerned, using the time to get to know Antoni better, but the situation takes a dark and deadly turn.

The days might be cold, but the nights are hot in this suspense filled romance.

Thom Collins is the author of Closer by Morning, North Point and the Anthem Trilogy. His love of page turning thrillers began at an early age when his mother caught him reading the latest Jackie Collins book and confiscated it, sparking a life-long love of raunchy novels.

Thom has lived in the North East of England his whole life. He grew up in Northumberland and now lives in County Durham with his husband and two cats. He loves all kinds of genre fiction, especially bonk-busters, thrillers, romance and horror. He is also a cookery book addict with far too many titles cluttering his shelves. “You are an exceptionally rude young man.” Alistair rose from the piano.

“Says the fuckin’ geezer who’s kidnapping me in my own house!” Noah growled. “Wow. Fuckin’ dementia settin’ in, Gramps? Do you understand how crazy you sound?”

“I do believe it’s time for that lesson in manners.” Alistair slid his belt from his pants, folding it in half and lightly patting it against his palm.

Noah froze, staring stupidly at the belt. He was so stunned by the clear implication that he laughed.

“I’m going to take you and put you over my knee,” Alistair said sternly. “I’m going to spank you with this belt until I hear a very sincere apology followed by absolute and total silence. While we’re staying here, I am going to expect you to be a model guest. Obedient, quiet, and dare I even say grateful. Do you understand, dear Noah?”

“You?” Noah laughed again. “You’re going to spank me?”

“Unless you’d like to apologize right now?”

“Ha!” Noah stood up straight and tall, towering over Alistair as he taunted, “I’d love to see you fuckin’ try it, old man.”

“Very well.”

In the space of a blink, Alistair grabbed Noah’s arm and twisted it into his back, dragging him over his knee as he sat down on the bench. It happened so quickly that Noah didn’t have enough time to register the pain until the belt cracked over his ass for the first time.

“Oh, fuck!” Noah tried to kick away, but the pressure on his arm in Alistair’s iron grip made a compelling argument to stay as he was. His ass felt like it had been branded where the belt had struck, and he hissed angrily. Even through his jeans, it hurt like hell. “Oh, wow, yeah, fuck you.”

“That didn’t sound like an apology, dear Noah,” Alistair chided.

“How about you take that ‘dear Noah’ and shove it up your—oh, fuck!” Noah cried out as the belt hit him again. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!”

“Mmm, that sort of language will simply not do.” The buckle clinked as Alistair set the belt aside, and he reached around Noah’s hips to grab at the front of his jeans. “A strong-willed boy such as yourself usually requires additional motivation.”

“Hey! Stop!” Noah squirmed as Alistair undid the button and opened up the fly of his jeans in one swift jerk. A rage like he’d never known filled him when Alistair grabbed the seat of his jeans and pulled them down with his underwear, just enough to expose his ass to the entire room. “Oh, fuck you!”

“Now.” Alistair had the belt again, and he lightly dragged it over Noah’s bare cheeks. “Let’s try this again, shall we?”

Noah tried bucking away, but he couldn’t get out of Alistair’s iron hold. He was furious from being stripped and humiliated like this, and he refused to comply. “Go fuckin’ die in a fire. A really big fuckin’ fire.”

“You still have plenty of time to apologize.”

“Yeah? But you sure don’t. Bein’ all old and shit. Might have a heart attack and drop dead right—agh, shit! Shit!” The pain from the belt against his bare skin was new, burning white hot, and Noah couldn’t explain the overwhelming rush coming over him.

Definitely didn’t have an explanation for his hard dick.

There was no way to hide it from Alistair, considering it was digging into his thigh, and Noah ducked his head, embarrassed and furious he couldn’t escape. For some reason, being held down was only making him harder, and the vicious cycle of shame and anger kept right on fueling his persistent erection.

“Why, Noah.” Alistair chuckled low. His voice dropped to a sultry tone, whispering as if they were lovers as he said, “I’m not sure I should continue your punishment under these circumstances. Would you like to apologize yet?”

“Eat… a dick,” Noah panted, refusing to acknowledge how all the little hairs on the back of his neck suddenly stood up from the way Alistair spoke.

“Mm, I take it that’s a ‘no’?”

“You’re… a fuckin… genius…”

“Well.” Alistair clicked his tongue, the leather creaking as he raised the belt back up. “I can already see you’re going to be quite a handful.”

“You’ve got no fuckin’ idea, you stupid—ow, fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck!”

This was going to be a very, very long day.

And he still hadn’t gotten that shower.

Fuck.

Alex had never felt such excruciating pain! It was as if his shoulder was leaning against a furnace during a winter blizzard. His shoulder was on fire, and he began to see stars in front of his eyes. He wished for the pain to stop! Please, God, if you are watching, please make this pain stop! I’ll do anything you ask! I’m sorry I was not a better man! 

Perhaps this was karma finally catching up to him for the role he played in Shawn’s death. While Alex was not the one that ultimately ended Shawn’s life, he also did nothing to report the murder or try to find Marc and bring him to justice. 

Yes, Karma was finally here to collect.

The figure standing in front of Alex slowly began to turn the blade as blood and flesh began to tear aware from his body. 

Alex cried out again in pain as his tears mixed with the blood that now slid down his arm and onto the straws of hay that peppered the ground of the barn.

He deserved this. He watched a man die and remained silent. Alex was finally getting what he deserved. 

Alex’s cry of pain was cut short as his face was splashed with a warm liquid. He opened his eyes startled, just in time to watch his torturer fall to the ground with a thump. Puzzled, Alex looked up.

Standing in front of him, holding a blood-stained bat, was his demon savior… the man who had caused so much pain in his life… the man whom he once cared for deeply… Marc. 

“Marc?” Alex whispered, half in shock, half in disbelief. 

This had to be one of his hallucinations brought on by the pain he was enduring. There was no way that Marc was standing right in front of him. No way.

Marc dropped the bloody bat and pulled the butterfly blade from his back pocket. He knelt down and gently touched Alex’s tear-stained face. 

Alex felt a slight tingling sensation when Marc’s fingertips touched his face. It was as if a thousand little electric currents were running from Marc’s fingers to his cheek.   

Alex stared up into Marc’s soft brown eyes. There was so much emotion in those eyes; fear, anger, and a hint of something else… longing?? 

Staring into those eyes, Alex thought about the countless nights the two of them stayed up late chatting together. The days when it had just been the two of them, living in a simpler world. A world before all the pain, murder, and betrayal. 

Yes, Alex had broken Marc’s heart when he refused to help him deal with Shawn’s dead body- a murder Marc had committed in order to protect Alex. But being here now, staring into Alex’s soulful eyes, it seemed as though all that had been forgotten by Marc. Marc was staring at Alex with such loving eyes.  

“I’m here now. Everything will be okay, I promise,” Marc blurted as the anger seemed to melt from his eyes and was replaced with so much love. 

“Wh… what are you doing here?” Alex asked, still in shock that Marc was actually standing in front of him. 

“I’m so sorry it took me so long to get here,” Marc apologized, as he touched the side of Alex’s bloody face. 

Alex noticed the look of pain in Marc’s eyes as he wiped the blood from Alex’s face. 

“Marc… I can’t believe you’re… how…” Alex was at a loss for words. He could not believe that Marc was standing right in front of him. Coming to his rescue once again. After all that he had done. But how did Marc know?

The lights in the barn suddenly went black.

The short one? You got it.

I was a bookworm, especially in fiction, fantasy, erotica, and romance. I drown into the enormous pleasure feeling of reading M/M erotica books since a teen. I found reading steamy gay erotica and romance book makes me feel complete, understand deeply what kind of person is I am, what is true my personality, I can be my own true self, and the best thing is I met with so many incredible friends that really support me. Since I live in an environment where LGBTQ+ is still a very taboo topic, it’s a huge relief.

I love reading and have a broad and wild imagination, but I’m not a good writer. Even English is not my first language, lol. A few years ago, I started to write after thinking deeply that I want to make my own wild imagination come true. I really want my vision to come true because It kind of desperate me whenever I read a story with some scenes that I feel “Hey, it could be hotter if like this,” or “Hm, it could be different if there is…”. Well, so here I am. A reckless young ordinary guy in his mid 20’s with no good English and writing skill try to become a writer and publish his own gay erotic books. Funny, isn’t it?

So, how was that?

Not long enough? A little more detail about me? Alright.

How long have you been writing?

Just few months ago, around May.

What made you decide you wanted to put yourself out there to be published?

I’ve read a lot of gay erotica stories and comics. Then, it’s turned out that my ultimate gay story kinks are straight to gay, hypnotized and brainwash. Someday, I found GaySpiralStories site where we can publish story related to brainwash kink. The site has 5 unique categories of rating with 3 levels. After I publish the story, it turned out that many readers like it, and I’m so surprised that I got huge rating. Besides rating, I just realized that I have a lot of naughty imaginations that I can write it by myself, instead of waiting and looking for someone to someday write it. I’m quite happy that I could get some money from it. It’s enough although just one or two people that like my story. I do this just as my side job.

Before you started, had you written any fan fiction? If so, what fandom?

No, I haven’t

Are you in agreement that writing fan fiction is a great way to hone ones’ craft – why or why not?

I think so, because writing fan fiction means you already have the base plot and characters to write the story, so you just have to recreate it and add some additional details.

What was your first published book?

Superheroes Enslavement series

Do you have a favorite character from one of your books? Why?

I love all my characters, but if I have to choose I will go with Rory-Stephen couple, Dr.P, and The Thing. Since we’re still I book 4 I don’t want to reveal other characters that will appear in arc 2, LoL. Since Rory/Smart Brain/Evil Brain is the main character of this story, and he’s the first character of my dream, I really love him, and I want Stephen to accompany him forever. At first I didn’t plan to made them as a couple, but it turned out to be really hot to make a couple of best friends in the past is changed into a lover. I really like that idea. For Dr.P and The Thing, well, they’re our 2 main villains in the story. Of course I like it since on arc 2 we will dig deeper inside both past, like how first they met, what is the real identity of The Thing, etc. I love to write these 2 characters.

What is your favorite sub-genre to write?

Science fiction, erotica, fantasy, straight to gay

Is there one genre you haven’t tried but you see yourself writing in the future?

Maybe fantasy. I want to write about vampire. They’re sexy, mysterious, and hot

Would you ever write a hetero romance? Why or why not?

No, I haven’t. I’m gay. I love to read straight romance or erotica story as long as the guy is handsome, muscular, and pretty good at sex.

What are your thoughts on erotica?

I’m more into erotica with slight romance. Maybe the proportion is 80:20 for erotica and romance respectively.

When creating your characters, do you have models/actors/real people in mind or are they totally fictional?

I got inspiration for name from my favorite actors, models, and characters from other books and gay game. I love playing gay game, some of my character’s name are came from it.

How descriptive are you in the sex scenes?

I love details description of sec scenes. Therefore, I love to make it long from the kissing, unbuttoning the shirt, worshiping body, the fuck scene, the cum scene, the aftermath. I like to add dialogues and expression when the characters have sex

Do you think women making up a good portion of the m/m fiction writers detracts from the genre? Why or why not?

Actually I haven’t think deeply about this issue, although I’m curious why a lot of women like m/m genre, because in gay comic also a lot of writer is women.

What is it about gay fiction and or m/m romance that pleasures you to write it?

Because I’m gay I love to see m/m scene

Where do you see m/m romance in the next 5 years?

I still don’t know, but maybe since world is now really opened to anybody, and each country understand the characters of other countries, I think more people will love to read this genre openly

Name two male celebs that you’d like to see in a hot make out session?

Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth

Your favorite gay TV show or movie?

Sorry, I didn’t watch a lot of gay movies, just videos, LoL. But I love Dante’s Cove
