RV’s summer after sophomore year of high school isn’t all fun and games as he navigates a budding new relationship, struggles with driving lessons, copes with the ups and downs of his summer job in a movie theatre, and tries to be patient with his traditional family that doesn’t want to deal with his sexuality.

Blurb

It’s the summer after sophomore year and RV enjoys new adventures and faces new challenges having finished two years of high school.  Since he loves movies, he’s happy to get a job as an usher at a movie multiplex, but learns the realities of dealing with job stresses and unruly customers. It’s time for him to start learning how to drive, and his father is eager to give him lessons.  But he’s not the most patient of teachers and RV is not the most capable of drivers. Bobby is still around, but he’s doing the hard job of recovering from his injury so doesn’t have time for much else. RV tries to open himself up to a new relationship and is happy when he meets Matteo, who works at the multiplex also.  It looks like the start of a budding romance – until it isn’t.  And then there is RV’s family, loving but traditional, not ready or willing to discuss issues of sexuality. Luckily, as always, there is Mr. Aniso, RV’s freshmen-year teacher, who has become a friend and is always there to talk over anything that might be bothering RV. But he’s away for the summer, helping his partner’s family, so there’s only so much time and attention he can give RV.

Excerpt from Broken World

Adam moved as soon as the L.S.A agents did. He slammed into Elle and knocked her to the ground. As the gunfire started, Adam kept her covered with his own body. Beneath him her screams were barely audible over the shooting. It was not just coming from the White Tower, but from the opposite direction where the barracks had been located.

Then he felt a hand on his arm. Glancing up he was relieved to see Eric leaning down over them. Adam reacted immediately. He got to his feet and dragging Elle up with him, Adam pushed her into Eric’s arms.

“Go!” he snapped when he saw how Eric hesitated. “I’ll be right behind you!”

Lifting Elle up off the ground, Eric started to run back towards the bridge and Perses. The gunfire began to fade into the background as the L.S.A seemed to now be concentrating on whoever it was who had started shooting at them.

They had passed the ruins of the Bell Tower when it happened. Adam felt something crash into him, and he was thrown back into the masonry. Pain exploded from his left shoulder and travelled all the way down his arm.

“Eric!” he tried to shout, but the pain had robbed his voice of its strength and his boyfriend’s name came out as a choked whisper.

“I’m afraid he’s long gone,” Neil’s sneering figure appeared in Adam’s line of vision. “It’s just you and me!”

Neil reached down and dragged Adam back to his feet by his good arm. He looked battered and almost deranged. Neil’s nose was still bleeding and when he spoke Adam could see blood staining his teeth red. His eyes were wild and one of his pupils was enlarged. There was blood in his hair, matting the blond against his head. Still despite all this, he seemed supercharged with his fury. All of it was directed at Adam.

“Dad’s going to be pretty pissed off about this mess!” Neil snarled as he started to pull Adam back towards where Traitor’s Gate had once stood. “But maybe if I bring him you, he will be more inclined to look passed all of this!”

Adam tried to dig his heels into the ground, to make it as difficult for Neil as possible but his struggles barely seemed to make a difference.

“Eric!” he croaked into his radio. As soon as he spoke, Neil lunged forwards and ripped it from his ear. Suddenly free, Adam drew back whilst his uninjured hand went for his gun. Neil was on him before he could raise the weapon. He struck Adam hard around the side of the head. Pain blossomed from the impact as he once more fell to the ground. The cry that escaped Adam as he landed amused Neil. His snarl twisted into a sadistic grin as he once more hauled Adam back to his feet. For a few seconds, the pain forced Adam let himself be dragged through the former Traitor’s Gate site and towards the river.

If he gets me back into south London, then it’s all over…

Adam renewed his struggling. He could not move his left arm and Neil still had hold of his right, so he quickly changed tactics. Using his momentum to push himself closer to the other man, Adam brought his knee up between Neil’s legs with as much force as he could muster. Neil yelled angrily, but he did not let Adam go as he doubled over. His action jerked Adam off his feet, and he would have fallen had Neil not kept his hold on his arm.

“You’re going to fucking pay for that!” Neil screamed furiously as he slammed Adam against the metal railings that cordoned off the Thames from the Tower of London site. One hand still held Adam firmly in place whilst the other closed around his throat.

Adam gasped. Pinned between Neil’s body and the railing, he was unable to move more than a token struggle. He tried to pull his arm free, but with the pressure on his neck increasing Adam was finding it impossible to breathe. Neil loomed over him, and he was close enough that Adam could see the red lines streaking through the whites of his eyes. He was not trying to kill Adam, just force him into unconsciousness. This thought gave him little comfort. If he was taken back to the L.S.A headquarters, then he would be dead by the end of the day.

Adam’s vision was starting to blur, and he had stopped fighting. He could feel the cold press of the railing at his back and the metal shaking under their combined weight.

“Neil…” Adam choked out with the last of his strength. “The railing…”

Yet as he spoke, he felt it give way. Adam shot his arm out, trying to reach for something – anything – to save him, but his hand closed around nothing other than air. As he felt himself falling, Neil drew back and managed to catch his footing right on the edge. The sight of him stumbling onto the firmer ground was the last thing Adam saw as he hit the water. Immediately as the cold river enveloped him, Adam fought for the surface. However, with only the use of one arm, he was unable to break his head above the water. Feebly he tried to kick, but his already oxygen-starved lungs could not take anymore. Adam barely had a moment to feel afraid before he blacked out.

He was supposed to be safe.

Captain Keyno Landium Shou is a Tah’Narian starship captain who has been granted the right to take a mate, any mate, he wants during the last harvest on Earth. Dale was seventeen when the aliens first appeared. His parents assumed he’d be safe since the final collection would be done before he turned twenty-three. He didn’t fall within the guidelines established, so they took for granted he had nothing to fear.

They were wrong.

Excerpt from The Harvest: Taken

I was seventeen when the aliens first appeared, so my parents assumed I was safe. The final collection would occur before I turned twenty-three. I didn’t fall within the guidelines the aliens had established, so I thought I had nothing to fear.

I was wrong.

Exactly one week before my twenty-third birthday, an extraction team showed up to collect me. My parents were distraught, and I fought them, but nothing stopped them from taking me. Somebody somewhere had made a terrible mistake. But no one would listen to me.

“I’m not supposed to be collected!” Men in SWAT gear dragged me to a waiting van. One of the aliens stood off to the side, watching. I dug my feet into the ground, trying to halt the parade of their progress. Two human soldiers were beside me, trying to secure my arms behind my back, but I kept twisting and jerking, frantic to break their hold on me. “Listen to me! I’m only twenty-two years old.”

“Son of a bitch, stop jumping around, you little fag,” the man to the right of me hissed as he grabbed at my wrist and twisted.

“Fuck!” I yelled as pain radiated up my arm. I managed to get my other arm free long enough to get in a good solid shot at the asshole who was currently trying to twist my hand off. I busted his nose. Anger boiled in his eyes as he whipped his arm back to strike me.

Before the blow could land, the Tah’Narian with the extraction team jerked the man away from me by the front of his shirt. Another human took his team member’s place immediately, but my focus was on the alien, not the other man holding my arm.

The alien lifted the human completely off the ground and shook him like a rag doll, snapping his head back and forth. The Tah’Narian’s low growls sent shivers up my spine as he spoke to the team member. And his strength was astounding. The man the alien lifted wasn’t a small guy, by any means, and he lifted him with one hand. Then he tossed the guy to the ground, pointed at me and babbled something I couldn’t understand.

“I… I… okay. I won’t touch him again.” The team member stumbled back to the van, never looking back at me.

Good God, the extraction team and that alien could somehow understand each other.  Momentarily distracted, I didn’t have time to react when another team member handcuffed both my arms tightly behind me. Someone on each side held me tightly, determined to march me to that waiting van.

“Let go of me, dammit!”

“Stop fighting, kid. You can’t win against five of us.” The new guard fastened a second set of cuffs higher on my forearms. “Plus there’s that alien, too. You just saw his strength. The more you fight, the harder this is going to be.”

I slumped in their arms, the fight draining out of me. “What did it say?”

“Basically, that you’ve been chosen by one of them,” one of the guys from the team leaned down and whispered to me. “I’m sorry, kid. Never heard of something like this happening. No more talking, or they’ll gag you next.”

Horrified, I hung in their arms as they dragged me to a waiting van. I desperately wanted to ask him what he meant about being chosen, but after his warning, I was afraid to say anything. What the hell was going on, and why were the rules being changed all of a sudden? These aliens weren’t supposed to be able to pick and choose. That defeated the whole purpose of having a lottery system.

Excerpt from “King of the Mountain”

GABE

Cliff stood in the shallows. His pale skin gave him the quality of a Michelangelo marble statue. His body had magnificent, classical proportions. Every muscle was clearly defined as though chiseled in stone and smoothed to perfection under the loving hand of a master sculptor. I wondered if he realized just how beautiful he was. And I still found it hard to believe that he was giving me the gift of his time.

He watched me as I strode toward him and, when I shook the water out of my hair, he warned, “Don’t you dare splash me. I like to get in slowly.”

“I won’t splash you,” I said as I stopped in front of him. His eyes were unbelievable. The aquamarine of the water reflected off his blue eyes. I had the sensation of looking into a kaleidoscope of colors yet to be invented. I placed my hands on his shoulders and kissed him on both cheeks.

He was startled but did not back away. “What was that for?” he asked.

“We have not had a chance to greet each other yet – the French way. The way you taught me. And,” I continued, “to say I’m sorry.”

I gave him my sweetest smile.

“Sorry for wha….”

He did not get to finish the sentence because I folded one leg behind him and, in the most basic of wrestling moves, tipped him backward into the water.”

The look on his face was priceless, and I burst out laughing when his head emerged, spluttering and cursing.

He reached out a hand and said, “You can at least help me up.”

I took hold of his hand and found myself yanked off my feet with Cliff dunking my head underwater. I shook myself free and rose from the waves to see Cliff making a run for the beach. I lurched after him, tackled him, and dragged him back into the water. He laughed and spluttered till he gained his footing and rounded on me, grabbing my waist. His hands stroked over my hip bones, and I started laughing. He had inadvertently found my weak spot, the most ticklish part of my body. Cliff was not one to let such an advantage pass him by. He held me tight with one arm curved around my chest while his free hand tickled my hip bone without mercy. I giggled and squirmed helplessly in his arms.

We horsed around in the water like a couple of drunken teenagers. Drunk on sunshine, drunk on life, drunk on L…   I did not dare to complete the thought. Who was I to think a man like Clifford du Frey would fall in love with me? For all I knew, he was straight as straight can be. Sports stars let off steam by horsing around with their teammates. And after the grueling days on the road, he sure needed some fun to relax and unwind.

I reminded myself that a man could bathe in the warmth of the sun, but that did not mean the sun cared about the man’s existence. He was an international celebrity, a superstar. As unattainable as the sun itself. And we all knew what happened to those who flew too close to the sun.

After a few more minutes of splashing and laughing, I got his glistening body in a half nelson and made him concede that I was a superior wrestler.

Cliff stood bent-over, panting. I beat my chest like Tarzan and hollered at the waves, “I, Neptune, King of the Sea, have conquered the one and only King of the Mountain.”

He smiled his most disdainful smile, came to stand right in front of me, and said, “Just wait till I get you up into the mountains.”

“What are you going to do?” I teased, “Drag me into your castle and tie me up?”

His nostrils flared, and his face showed such a mixture of emotions that I was at a loss to interpret them.

“For starters,” he said, “I’ll whip your ass….”

I caught my breath.

He continued, “…at skiing.”

He drew himself up to his full height, which meant I was looking directly at his lips and the stubble on his chin. I ached to reach out and feel that roughness. I did not just want to feel it with my hands; I wanted to feel it on my neck, my chest, on every square inch of my body. He parted his lips, and I imagined the sweet, salty taste they would leave on my tongue.

My throat was suddenly dry. I licked my lips and looked up at the eyes that were waiting to bore into mine. Our chests were only separated by a minuscule air gap and two thin layers of water that were rapidly evaporating under our bodies’ heat. I stood motionless; my heart was pounding so loudly that I was sure Cliff could hear it. I had the sensation of my chest hair vibrating to the rhythm of his heartbeat.

I’m on the run, on a blessed path that leads me straight into their arms.

Blurb

In 2026, Oliver Smith emigrates from the United States to Austria, to start a job as an editor for Boutique Press. Anxious, tired and broken, he hallucinates an angel comforting him on the plane. Ollie assumes it was a dream, but the Catholic contract lawyer Moritz who picks him up at the airport assures him that angels are real.

As Ollie builds a new life on the other side of the world, working his job while trying to keep himself together and hold his shadows at bay, he meets Bryn, a young man who practices a secret magic and sings gentle prayers to the sunset. Bryn is married to Moritz, the same contract lawyer who helped Ollie settle in and who keeps showing up and cooking for him in the evenings. But things have gone wrong: Bryn and Moritz are separated, pending divorce.

Ollie and Bryn fall fast together, becoming best friends, and as Ollie gets to know Moritz’s caring heart he realizes he has feelings for this beautiful man, too. But on the eve of Fasching, Vienna shuts down. The Schöner Himmel coffee shop is forced to close, and with the mandatory ambulance service and the military deployed, Bryn and Moritz are called up. As his loved ones fall to illness and injury, Ollie works himself to the bone, helping his friends keep the Schöner Himmel, the Buchinger book bindery, and the tailoring shop running. With nowhere else to turn, he prays to his guardian angel, eager to seek spiritual refuge in dark times.

Instead of giving comfort, the angel challenges him to face what he is running from.  Come what may, I have what it takes to hold us together.

Blurb

Two years after the events of Nebulae, Bryn, Moritz, and Ollie are enjoying peaceful days and continuing to build on their relationship. Meanwhile, Milly—Bryn’s sister—and her wife, Grace, have always wanted children, and as planned, Milly starts trying to conceive with Ollie’s help. Bryn never thought he’d become a parent or even an uncle, but seeing everyone around him so happy at the prospect of children, he is doing his best to open his heart to the fruitful gifts that life can bestow.

Then circumstances take a turn, and Bryn is left holding the reins of an exhausted and stressed-out family. With Moritz working non-stop at a local law firm, Ollie’s panic disorder rearing its ugly head, and the addition of a little bundled-up blessing who had a rough start coming into the world, suddenly everyone is relying on Bryn to lead. Yet Bryn’s intense self-doubt leaves him feeling like he isn’t anywhere near good enough—or strong enough—to be all that his two men and their fragile baby need.

As magical forces become active in Vienna, Bryn must make a choice: refuse his role and watch his family fall apart, or invoke his higher self and come into his own to navigate the spiritual and magical flow of the world.

Etheric is a 35,000-word MMM romance featuring magical realism and the cutest baby ever. It is the third book in the Sky Nymph series, which is best read in order. Excerpts

Book 1 (First Conquest)

Rory was interrupted by the feeling of a needle plunging into his shoulder. His eyes snapped open, but almost immediately, irresistible sleepiness washed over him.

“This is not my fault. This is your fault. It won’t happen if you ever recognize me. You never saw me. You never pay attention to me. You never did that even once.”

The Doctor reached out greedily and tweaked Rory’s big pink nipples with his meaty hands. Rory let out an uncontrollable wail of orgasmic pleasure as he was played with. His nipples were as sensitive as cock. A short, thin plug, flared at one end, rose up from the table between Rory’s legs. Softly and gently, the plug slid into the superhero’s dick hole, sealing his exit and giving his cum no means of escape.

Tears streamed down his eyes, dampened his handsome face. He started to feel empty, like someone subtly cut off an essential part of his body. But instead of pain, he feels a delight sensation that was just getting higher and higher each time the foreign Thing invaded every aspect of his brain, every inch of his soul. The former hero was like unmolded clay, ready to be sculpted into whatever his sculptor wished.

Book 2 (Steamy Pleasure)

“Rory… Rory… Rory…” She wept, her tears falling onto the screen in fat drops, “Where are you…? I’m so worried….” Remember her bad and creepy dream, she cried harder. Martha wept even harder as she saw the newest picture. That is the moment before they went into her apartment when Rory proposes to her. She took a small box from the table and opened it. There are two beautiful golden rings inside it. Rory took it off when they had sex on her bed. “Oh, Rory…” she held the ring and bawled. “What’s happened to you? Where have you gone?” Unwittingly, some parts of her past come to her vision.

Jack realized he already drooled over Mateo’s body without blinked for a minute. He quickly turned his face and cursed. Shit, why could I never hold back this lust, this despicable sin? Mateo is my leader, best friend, even brother. I shouldn’t have a feeling for him. The pale guy closed his eyes and rested his mind. It’s been more than 5 years since their life is started getting worse.

Flare yelped and moaned in agonized ecstasy, especially when Frost leaned down, sucked on his sensitive nipple, then blew on it with his icy-cold breath power, hardening the tip into a tender little erect nub. As their hard cocks rubbed and entwined beneath the water, the power of hot and cold coming from their bodies made wave after wave of mist and steam filled the room.

Evil Brain grinned as he watched the two heroes embraced their new life. The silhouette of two masculine bodies having hot copulation can be seen from the torrent of steam and mist.

Victor growled in dismay as his former teammate obeyed Dr. P’s orders and melted the ice away with his fire powers. He hoped they could somehow resist the perverted villain’s control over them, but it looked like Frost and Flare were a lost cause. His limbs were no longer bound, but he remained on his hands and knees as his suit continued to be unresponsive.

The helmet immediately came to life, and the Terminator’s chocolate-skinned, naked body, was immediately encased with black armor, as dark as midnight. The material wasn’t metal exactly. It looked wetter, slightly rubbery, and also quite shiny. It certainly felt like rubber when it made contact with the new villain’s skin. Several tubes as thick as a hose came out from the helmet and another one from his crotch and connected itself to the respirator. He looked like he was on some kind of life support.

About the Author

Do you prefer to see my short or long bio?

The short one? You got it.

I was a bookworm, especially in fiction, fantasy, erotica, and romance. I drown into the enormous pleasure feeling of reading M/M erotica books since a teen. I found reading steamy gay erotica and romance book makes me feel complete, understand deeply what kind of person is I am, what is true my personality, I can be my own true self, and the best thing is I met with so many incredible friends that really support me. Since I live in an environment where LGBTQ+ is still a very taboo topic, it’s a huge relief.

I love reading and have a broad and wild imagination, but I’m not a good writer. Even English is not my first language, lol. A few years ago, I started to write after thinking deeply that I want to make my own wild imagination come true. I really want my vision to come true because It kind of desperate me whenever I read a story with some scenes that I feel “Hey, it could be hotter if like this,” or “Hm, it could be different if there is…”. Well, so here I am. A reckless young ordinary guy in his mid 20’s with no good English and writing skill try to become a writer and publish his own gay erotic books. Funny, isn’t it?

So, how was that?

Not long enough? A little more detail about me? Alright.

I have broad kinks, but the most special one for me since I was a kid is where the video or story includes many muscles, pecs, nipples, abs. Yes, I have a powerful lust for man’s sculpted body. Sparse hair is acceptable, as long as not exaggerated. I also love seeing a guy being raped, submissive and brainwashed. One of my favorite movies is Batman and Robin (1997). Do you know why? It’s simply because I love seeing the handsome muscular Robin being hypnotized by Poison Ivy pheromone.

Hei, so you’re bisexual because you like sexy Poison Ivy? Well, I still don’t know what my exact gender is. But I still love seeing straight sex as long as the guy is hot and sexy, lol.

Oh, I also love superheroes, alien, and tentacle things. I think everyone loves superheroes, right? their muscular body and tight costume always make me aroused. I also love the Alien movie when the man had sex and was raped by the alien. I also admire a lot of tentacles illustrations that raped and seduced a man. So, here I am with my first series, Superheroes Enslavement. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it.

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR

How long have you been writing?

Just few months ago, around May.

What made you decide you wanted to put yourself out there to be published?

I’ve read a lot of gay erotica stories and comics. Then, it’s turned out that my ultimate gay story kinks are straight to gay, hypnotized and brainwash. Someday, I found GaySpiralStories site where we can publish story related to brainwash kink. The site has 5 unique categories of rating with 3 levels. After I publish the story, it turned out that many readers like it, and I’m so surprised that I got huge rating. Besides rating, I just realized that I have a lot of naughty imaginations that I can write it by myself, instead of waiting and looking for someone to someday write it. I’m quite happy that I could get some money from it. It’s enough although just one or two people that like my story. I do this just as my side job.

Before you started, had you written any fan fiction? If so, what fandom?

No, I haven’t

Are you in agreement that writing fan fiction is a great way to hone ones’ craft – why or why not?

I think so, because writing fan fiction means you already have the base plot and characters to write the story, so you just have to recreate it and add some additional details.

What was your first published book?

Superheroes Enslavement series

Do you have a favorite character from one of your books? Why?

I love all my characters, but if I have to choose I will go with Rory-Stephen couple, Dr.P, and The Thing. Since we’re still I book 4 I don’t want to reveal other characters that will appear in arc 2, LoL. Since Rory/Smart Brain/Evil Brain is the main character of this story, and he’s the first character of my dream, I really love him, and I want Stephen to accompany him forever. At first I didn’t plan to made them as a couple, but it turned out to be really hot to make a couple of best friends in the past is changed into a lover. I really like that idea. For Dr.P and The Thing, well, they’re our 2 main villains in the story. Of course I like it since on arc 2 we will dig deeper inside both past, like how first they met, what is the real identity of The Thing, etc. I love to write these 2 characters.

What is your favorite sub-genre to write?

Science fiction, erotica, fantasy, straight to gay

Is there one genre you haven’t tried but you see yourself writing in the future?

Maybe fantasy. I want to write about vampire. They’re sexy, mysterious, and hot

Would you ever write a hetero romance? Why or why not?

No, I haven’t. I’m gay. I love to read straight romance or erotica story as long as the guy is handsome, muscular, and pretty good at sex.

What are your thoughts on erotica?

I’m more into erotica with slight romance. Maybe the proportion is 80:20 for erotica and romance respectively.

Name your favorite authors and some of their stories you’ve enjoyed?

Joey W. Hill, Cherise Sinclair, Lexy Timms, Finley Fenn, Verity Vixxen

What book are you reading at the moment? It’s okay to give a fellow author a plug!

Vampire Queen by Joey W. Hill, Servicing the Target by Cherise Sinclair, Dominating Personal Assistant by Lexy Timms. For gay books such as Nox by Adrienne Wielder, and Unhinged by Onkey James

What are you currently working on?

The 4th book of Superheroes Enslavement series

When creating your characters, do you have models/actors/real people in mind or are they totally fictional?

I got inspiration for name from my favorite actors, models, and characters from other books and gay game. I love playing gay game, some of my character’s name are came from it.

How descriptive are you in the sex scenes?

I love details description of sec scenes. Therefore, I love to make it long from the kissing, unbuttoning the shirt, worshiping body, the fuck scene, the cum scene, the aftermath. I like to add dialogues and expression when the characters have sex

Do you think women making up a good portion of the m/m fiction writers detracts from the genre? Why or why not?

Actually I haven’t think deeply about this issue, although I’m curious why a lot of women like m/m genre, because in gay comic also a lot of writer is women.

What is it about gay fiction and or m/m romance that pleasures you to write it?

Because I’m gay I love to see m/m scene

Where do you see m/m romance in the next 5 years?

I still don’t know, but maybe since world is now really opened to anybody, and each country understand the characters of other countries, I think more people will love to read this genre openly

Name two male celebs that you’d like to see in a hot make out session?

Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth

Your favorite gay TV show or movie?

Sorry, I didn’t watch a lot of gay movies, just videos, LoL. But I love Dante’s Cove

Thank you for taking time to answer these questions, Stephen.

SERIES TOUR – NACHO MAMA’S PATIO CAFE NOVELS

Friends, fags, & fun in a little college town

Any Summer Sunday

Boys in the Band meets Le Cage in an Indiana drag bar

Who Plugged the Dyke?

Elections are hard. This one is Murder

The two books stand alone and can be read in either order, although Any Summer Sunday was written first and contains more background information. It is a more character driven story. Who Plugged the Dyke is a mystery.

Overall Heat Rating: 2 flames. Tawdry, but not dirty. Sex is described as part of a story, but not in detail. No sex scenes. Not romance. Not erotica. Think of gay friends in a bar who might describe a conquest (but not the specifics).

INTERVIEW WITH STEVE SCHATZ

The film you can watch time and time again…

There are two that I watch on a regular basis – Were the World Mine, which is a gay retelling of Midsummer’s Night Dream, and Wristcutters: A Love Story. Both are pretty obscure, but are wonderful.

The poem that touches your soul…

Two by Maya Angelou – On the Pulse of Morning, which she wrote for and read during Clinton’s inauguration, which was a time of great hope … the end of (we thought) a dark, right wing chapter in US politics. Of course, we have since found that there was more darkness in the wings. But that day was a moment of light and hope.

The second poem is called Love Arrives. She wrote it for a really sappy TV show called Touched by an Angel. One wonderful phrase after another. “In the flush of love’s light, we dare be brave.”

Finally, a contemporary writer – Andrea Gibson is amazing. She uses music and the music of her words and visuals to weave gasping loveliness. Go to youtube and watch Your Life (“you’re pronouns haven’t even been invented yet”) and Living Proof.

At my best, I hope to approach that level of reach right in and grab your heart and make you cry and laugh at the same time.

The event that altered the course of your life…

We were living in Hartford, CT and drove up to Western Massachusetts, where a friend of my husband was visiting. She was a well know Yaqui dreaming woman (if you remember the Carlos Castaneda books, his teacher was a Yaqui shaman. A dreaming woman is one who has lucid dreams) who read cards and did horoscopes. I was skeptical, but willing to indulge my husband. The reading was interesting, but no big changes. We headed home.

On the way home, I was struck by a vision, a very clear vision – like I was there. I had to pull over and let the scene play out. It involved a village in high mountains and the people had appointed someone to be in charge of “talking” to the spirits. They had given up their personal duty to create and celebrate the sacred. .

This person walked through the village, leading an assistant and they went to the top of high place – maybe a pyramid, maybe a mountain and were doing a service and something went wrong and the assistant was killed and the “priest” was frightened, so he declared it was the will of the god. Just because he made a mistake and was frightened.

And I knew that this was how divine sacrifice, an inexcusable act, came into this world.

I cried. It was so real.

And that image guided the creation of my first novel Adima Rising, published by a small publishing house in Texas. I started that trip as a college professor. I came home several hours later on the path to being an author.

The pet hate that makes your hackles rise…

People who feel entitled or, even worse, duty bound, to tell others how to live their life when their actions do not hurt others. I’m amazed that being gay is an issue in many places. A guy was recently beheaded in an “honor” killing by his family for being gay. What kind of twisted mind thinks there is greater honor in killing than in being gay? In the US, school systems are forbidden from mentioning gays as regular human beings. Dives me nuts.

The figure from history you would most like to buy a pie and a pint…

I’d like to meet Mark Twain. I’d like to attend a Billie Holiday show and perhaps give her a hug. For a pie and a pint, I’d pick Douglas Adams. Anyone who can write with that combination of wit and imagination would be fun to chat with, although I suspect we would both be quiet.

The piece of wisdom you would pass onto a child…

Try not to hurt anyone, especially yourself. Look for what makes you happy, not what you think you ought to do. Each of us decides to come here for an adventure, to learn something from the experience. If it feels right, try it. You can nearly always change your mind.

The treasured item you lost and wish you could have again…

We were tearing apart our kitchen. My husband is a designer – the difference between designer and decorator is that a design rips down walls. We had stripped the kitchen down to the studs – everything out and I was spending a lot of time working on it because living in a construction zone doesn’t really bother him, but it makes me all twitchy.

I’m also prone to demonstrate a skill for impressive clumsiness. I somehow banged my hand. Of course, I did what you have to do, even though it does no good. I held my hand up and shook it vigorously.

My wedding ring flew off and promptly disappeared. We pulled out the cabinets. We pulled up the floor. No ring. It was gone.

Thankfully, my husband did not take this as a sign. We are still together.

The philosophy that underpins your life…

We are here to experience, learn, and share. The best way to spend my time is intentional, creative, action. Be driven more by I want to than I ought to. And try not to be a dick.

The character you enjoyed writing the most

Aunt May, a tiny, old Southern lady who looks ever so proper, drinks ever so much, and was moved out of Honeysuckle Springs when her public reminisces of past lovers became an embarrassment for now respectable and married men of the community, is an exception. I absolutely love her when she sets down her drink, pats her lips with a lace hanky, and lets loose a truly tawdry tale. She is not based on anyone. She popped into the story one day. I don’t know where she came from unless the spirits of Jessica Tandy and Divine happened to be floating by that day.

I love her because I get to channel a sweet, old lady who is absolutely filthy and has grabbed life by the lips and yanked. She’s seen and done it all and has deep knowledge of what lurks in the minds of men, but very little judgement. I have friends who are already insisting that they be the one to play her if the books ever go to film.

The book you enjoyed planning/writing the most…

Any Summer Sunday continues to be my favorite. It took nine years because I was doing lots of other things and I never even was sure it would come together. It is a series of vignettes and character studies loosely draped over a plot. I love the characters and how the story resolves. Most of all, I love how the words and music work together to compose an effect. When I’m feeling doubtful, I read chapter 17 and know I have done something good.

And the promo

The Nacho Mama’s Patio Café series has two books, with a third on the way, featuring a group of middle-aged homos in a small, college town in Indiana. Many years ago when I was traveling the country doing software training, I would end up in small towns. I’d always go out to the gay bar, if I could find it. In these small towns, the bars were usually pretty well hidden – down an alley and plain fronts with little or no signage. Once inside, it would open up and be a much different place. I was coming from San Francisco and realized these people often had to hide their proclivities. The bar was their real home and the only place they could safely relax and be themselves. I wanted to capture that feeling of the bar being the social center, but turn the clock up, so the boys are now older and more settled and the world is a bit less hateful. The bar, Hoosier Daddy, is still the center of social life and the characters who inhabit the bar and the patio café come on a regular basis to bitch, lie, laugh, and enjoy the comfort of long-time friends.

Any Summer Sunday takes place over a single evening. TiaRa del Fuego, drag diva extraordinaire and dear friend has fallen for a thug and is going to run away to join him in Florida, a certain mistake. The friends must decide how far they will go to rescue a dear friend from her own desires.

The language dances with the music of the performances as the friends explore old loves, jobs, and the meaning of life with great dollops of funny and nasty.

Who Plugged the Dyke is a mystery with the same characters as Any Summer Sunday. It has the same mix of action and fun, actually a bit more action. There are 10 days before the first lesbian judge in Indiana will be elected, but someone is trying to kill her and the friends have to figure out who is spinning the web and how to stop him. I love the characters from Any Summer Sunday and wanted to try to put them into a new situation, to see if there was a potential for a series and if I had the writing chops to do it. It worked.

Thank you, Steve.

How far should you go to save a friend from her own desires?

Blurb

TiaRa del Fuego is in love and that means trouble for her friends. Every Sunday evening we meet in Hoosier Daddy, our small college town’s only gay bar gather to watch TiaRa del Fuego’s Parade of Gowns drag show. Performance, love, betrayal, spies, and friendship fight to the fore every Summer Sunday.

However, this Sunday, dear TiaRa, thin enough to hate, yet broken enough to love, announces she has found love…yet again…and is leaving after that evening’s show to be with her new man. We know she is making a huge mistake…again. What can we do?

Any Summer Sunday is a celebration of friends, drag, and life. Come and join in the fun.

Excerpt from Any Summer Sunday

With few exceptions, the same group of reprobates gathered every week. We are no longer young, but all have spent our years wisely or wildly enough to hold one’s place when the conversation turns a bit too bitchy. We enjoyed our youth, are enjoying the years beyond youth without regret, and occasionally enjoy youths—when the opportunity arises, as it were.

All societies celebrate the young, but in gay circles, this celebration borders on idolatry. Twenty-somethings and now even teeny-somethings who celebrate their coming out are welcomed into a glorious disco summer camp with every conceivable need provided. For those of us who are years past the realization and/or announcement, being out offers far fewer invitations. We often find ourselves between worlds—not certain of a welcome in either gay or straight society.

In “normal” society, it is tiresome to yet again face the “ . . . and your wife?” questions in every new group and to worry if it is going to be an issue. If I have an urge to explore square dancing, must I find a gay square—hmmm . . . Mr. Lynde springs to mind. Sometimes it’s easier not to bother. Then there are those moments when it suddenly pisses you off that you are supposed to feel gratitude merely for being accepted or endured by the dominant pairing paradigm.

In the gay community, the adulation of youth and horror of aging can make one feel diseased. Even previously enjoyable activities can be snatched away. Take window shopping. I enjoy looking at a pretty pair of pants when it walks by, even if I know it will never fit, I can’t afford it, and the style is all wrong for a man of my years and shape. I look because it is pretty, and I enjoy looking at pretty things. But, if every time I go looking, the trousers, upon noticing my gaze, gasp in horror, turn away with a look of sardonic pity, and begin to whisper with their fellow couture, I eventually will give up looking.

So, when we find a group and an enjoyable activity where we can simply be, without the need to prove or explain ourselves, then it is something to be cherished. Not misty-eyed, bosom clutching cherished, but those people and enjoyments are simply too dear to give up without a care. Sunday afternoons were like that. That is why, when one Sunday, TiaRa del Fuego—dear, sweet, damaged TiaRa—announced that she had found love, yet again—this time on a dating site and was leaving town to be with her new man who was driving up that very day to help her move—well, we knew something had to be done and quickly.

Excerpt from Who Plugged the Dyke?

I noticed that the big, bearded Tooth Fairy had moved nearly in front of me. There is something wonderfully wrong about a big ol’ hunka hunka in a pink tutu. I grinned at him. He didn’t grin back. His attention was fixed on Deb. However, he was not smiling. He was just staring. Something in the back of my mind tickled. I started watching him more carefully. He was playing with his magic wand. It was about three feet long and trailed stars and strands of glitter. But he was pulling off the covering and it was looking less and less like a wand and more and more like a weapon. Recalling what I had been told, I looked for Roger or Petunia or one of Nacho’s Twinks. I couldn’t see Roger. Petunia was at the back of the stage, guarding the way in. I saw a couple of cute Twinks, but didn’t know if they were Nacho’s boys or not. I started to raise my hand and kind of gesture toward the Tooth Fairy. I was trying to be cool and not alert him that I had noticed anything untoward. He continued to pull away the spangles. He was looking down at the wand and then up at Deb, and I could see a look of menace grow across his features.

I waved my hands over my head and then pointed down at him. Some in the crowd saw what I was doing and waved, too. They thought it was a celebratory gesture. I began to wave my hands and point more emphatically. I nearly lost my balance, but no one seemed to get the message. No one was heading in that direction. I looked at  he man, who was no longer looking fairy-like at all. He had finished pulling all the detritus off his wand and while I was not a  weapons guy, even I could recognize that what was once a wand  was now, very obviously, a weapon. A blow gun.

He reached into his bag and pulled out, not a handful of glitter, but a rather large  dart with a very large and very sharp point. By this time, subtle was no longer on the table. I waved my hands wildly above my  head, then pointed at the guy. I did not care if he saw. I had to  stop him, and no one seemed to be coming to do anything about it. Deb was talking. The girls were dancing. And the Tooth Fairy  dropped the dart into his blow gun.

About the Author

Steve Schatz writes with a crazy mashup of laughs and excitement and humor. Readers can’t stop reading, but don’t want the story to end. Each book is an adventure where endearing anti-heroes struggle against this crazy world and triumph using the twin forces of intentional, creative action and friends helping friends.  Schatz draws on a lifetime of varied and fascinating experiences, from instructional designer and college prof to party clown and nightclub owner.

His series of adult fiction highlights a group of middle-aged gay friends who gather every week in a small, Indiana college town. Mixing drinks, snappy repartee, and the humor and joy of long-time friends, in one book they rescue the fair drag queen from an obvious miscreant. In another, they ride to the protection of a lesbian candidate for judge who is being targeted by mysterious evil-doers. The excitement reveals itself against a backdrop of drag performance and efforts by anti-heroes. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll beg for more. Steve Schatz offers a new voice and a smile for the LGBT community and their friends.

Excerpt from A is for Aftercare

“You’re struggling to write?” he asks.

He picks up a glass of water and drinks from it. Captivated, I admire the way his full lips curve around the rim.

“Aye.”

“It’s the book that’s due in a month?”

“Aye.” I groan. “I’ll manage it.”

“How much have you written?”

I shrug. “Not enough. I’m just not feeling the words. I’m sick of Orion. I’d put a bullet through his head if my publisher let me.” I have no clue why I’m telling him any of this.

“If it helps, I really like Orion.”

I snort. “I’m paying you to be my PA, not kiss my arse.” Not that I have any reason to disbelieve his love of my character. On the other hand, I wouldn’t be averse to his lips being pressed against that part of my body—or anywhere else for that matter. I stuff some of the avocado toast into my mouth. It tastes a bit too good.

“I’m not.” The blush across his cheeks deepens to scarlet. “I’m being honest. I know he’s a bit surly, but he’s got a kind heart, really.”

I huff. “He’s a crotchety arsehole.”

Archie laughs. The sound reverberates through my body, almost making me want to laugh along with him. Part of the reason I hate Orion is that he’s too much like me.

“But I’m stuck with him for this book and another one. At least.”

“At least?”

“My contract runs out after that, but knowing my publisher, I’m sure they’ll try to sweet talk me into signing up to write another three books about the grumpy fucker.”

Archie smothers another laugh behind his hand.

“What?” I demand.

“You don’t strike me as the kind of man who does anything he doesn’t want to.”

I narrow my eyes. What else does he think he’s figured out about me?

“I’m not, but this is different.”

Archie tilts his head. “How?”

I open and close my mouth a couple of times, which probably makes me look like a fish drowning in air. “My publisher calls the shots,” I say eventually. Self-publishing under a pen name gives me the creative freedom I crave. Not that I’m going to mention that to my sexy PA.

“Surely they’ll understand if you tell them you’ve run out of steam? Especially if you pitch them a fantastic new idea.”

I shake my head.

“I’ve read all your books, sir. You’ve written so many amazing characters. I’m sure you could come up with a concept that would blow Orion King out of the water.”

I stare at the food on my plate.

“If you could write anything, what would it be?”

Aside from hot, passionate, if unrealistic stories of men falling in love? “I don’t know.”

“You should think about it,” Archie says as if it’s as easy as calling lightning from the sky. “But right now, you need to find a way to fall back in love with Orion enough to finish this book and write another.”

“I know,” I grumble.

“Is there anything I can do to help the words flow?” Archie asks.

I jerk my head back. “What?”

That’s not even remotely part of his job description. Then again, it’s only halfway through his first day, and he’s already made more of a positive impact on me than any of his predecessors.

“Can I help?”

Be Lee Lawson’s muse. Lie naked on my bed while I write about how glorious you are.

Blurb

Out of respect for the relationship we once had I will spare your life. However, if you try to obstruct me again then I will kill you

Vampires are now an endangered species. Possessed by the demon Kurai, Kokawa Taku has sworn to eradicate all those whom he deems inferior.

Determined to free Taku from the demon’s corruption, Thane seeks help from Taku’s sire, Takata Koji. Thane’s search for answers takes him to Hong Kong where he learns the devastating truth. That in order to save Taku, Thane may have to kill him.

Refusing to accept this, Thane makes a decision that places the fate of all vampires in the balance. However Thane is unaware of the betrayal around him and that his actions will either save Taku or destroy him.

Excerpt from Demon’s Blood (Demon’s Blood universe #1)

Ōtsuki, Kai Province, Honshū, JAPAN, 29 January 1714

Takata Koji knew he was dying. The sickness that had swept through his village had been relentless and had claimed the lives of scores already. He had fallen ill five days ago, two days after his younger sister, Kaede, died. The physician had just been to see him. The grim expression on the man’s face and the distraught weeping of his mother only confirmed what, deep down, Koji already knew. He did not want to die. He was only twenty-five. He wanted to cling onto life with every fibre of his being. But simply the will to live was not enough. Koji’s body ached and he could not get warm, no matter how many blankets his mother brought him. His voice had failed him two nights ago and was yet to return.

It was a cruel hand of fate that the direct descendants of the Takata clan had managed to survive elimination at the hands of their enemy only to perish now. The Okada clan had defeated his relatives almost a hundred and fifty years ago in battle. Of their branch of the family Koji was the only male born; the last heir. His mother could bear no more children.

Hearing the voices of his parents Koji glanced towards the shoji. He had only seen his father once since he became ill. His mother said the man was consumed by grief. Koji knew better than this. Takata Kazuhiro had talked of nothing other than reclaiming his clan’s status and land since Koji was a boy. Yet his own frailties had prevented him from achieving this himself. Some of the Takata clan’s descendants had managed to secure positions within the Tokugawa Shogunate. However, a poor background and ill health had prevented Kazuhiro from doing the same. Koji had been his last hope. It was more than his son dying; it was Kazuhiro’s dreams too.

Koji inhaled deeply, finding even this intake of air difficult as he shifted his position on the futon. The movement caused one of the woven blankets to slip off him and onto the tatami floor. There it remained. Koji lacked the strength to reach over for it. A hacking cough shook his fragile form. He had lost so much weight that his clothes hung off of him. The last time he had gazed at his reflection he had seen a corpse rather than a man staring back.

Koji gasped, fighting to catch his breath as the painful tickling sensation in the back of this throat relentlessly forced the violent coughing fit. A metallic taste welled up in his mouth and the frightened young man gagged over the side of the futon. The hand automatically flying to his mouth came back slicked with crimson.

“Nishimura-san!” his mother raced into his bedroom screaming for the physician at the sight of her son’s blood. Koji felt hands on his shoulders. He was roughly shaken when he failed to respond. Panicked golden eyes raised to meet his mother’s terrified ones even as his vision began to fail him.

“Koji! Koji!”

Her cries were becoming fainter now and the darkness that he was falling into was more inviting. As much as he feared death, Koji now felt some relief at its embrace. He was so tired. As much as he wished to hold onto life he realised that, deep down, all he really wanted was to be free of the pain.

***

Candles flickered in the dark, the heat from their burning light touching his sensitive skin as he was drawn from unconsciousness once more. Hot, red wax dripped onto the stone altar from the ceiling above. One spot landed on his palm, causing a hiss of pain to escape him. The clan’s Mon – coat of arms – was etched crudely into the low ceiling. The large circle and rhombi making up the outline of the symbol seemed to swell in size the longer that he stared at them. The two smaller diamonds in the centre were coloured completely in red.

Koji could hear the hum of lowered voices around him yet they remained in shadow. He tugged weakly on the rope that bound his arms above his head and back against the stone surface. An unnecessary precaution, for the fever had robbed him of most of his strength. He could barely curl a palm into a fist.

A weakened cough alerted them to his wakefulness and one man stepped forward. Koji tried to make a sound but a gentle gasp was all that was permitted from dry lips as his father approached. Takata Kazuhiro’s stern expression did not falter although there was some regret lingering in his reddened eyes.

Kazuhiro sustained a leg injury in a fight before Koji was born and had walked with a stick ever since. He leaned heavily on this now, as though it would somehow give him strength. A candle lit lamp was held in his free hand. Koji shifted slightly under his father’s gaze not understanding the situation or the reason for the man’s silence. He had slowly begun to recognise the room that he was in and confusion filled him. It was the village shrine.

“Kazuhiro!” Another voice broke through the quiet murmurs. Koji’s gaze turned to the newcomer. Tears stained his mother’s cheeks. Her hair had fallen free from her usual ponytail to tangle around her face in wild waves. The streaks of silver were clearly visible now. Since he had fallen sick she seemed to have aged twenty years.

“Do not do this,” she pleaded softly of her husband. “Nishimura-san—”

“Cannot help him,” Kazuhiro finished for her. His words were as hard as stone. “This is the only way.”

“He is our son! And you would condemn him to this!”

“It will save his life,” Kazuhiro gestured to the two men – whom were neighbours of the Takata’s – standing behind him. “It is a great gift, Natsumi.”

“How can you call it a gift? It is a curse!”

Koji watched helplessly as the two younger men seized his mother and dragged her from his line of sight and back into shadow. He could make out her further protests and sobs for a few moments. A cry pierced the calm of the room. Then silence followed.

Blurb

When Paige Reed spots a man across the room at a party, she’s fascinated and decides she wants him in her bed. Fortunately, her husband, Connor, doesn’t mind. He’s attracted to the powerful man too.

Former NFL player, Graedon Ward likes to be in control. He’s more than pleased with Paige’s obvious interest. However, she makes it quite clear: it’s a package deal. If he wants her, he has to take on her husband too, and past experience has taught him that’s a dangerous road to travel.

Excerpt

Trevor stood on the stoop staring at the dark blue painted front door. The house was a modest two-story, the yard well-maintained, the landscaping professionally done. The paved driveway was empty, and he only hoped that the two-car garage held Damon’s car as he knocked on the door.

After the other night at the bar, it had taken every bit of strength and determination he had to show up at the man’s home. But he couldn’t give up so easily. He understood Damon’s anger. In fact, Trevor embraced it.

Simply because he deserved every drop of it.

But he couldn’t move forward unless Damon forgave him. Even if his former lover wouldn’t accept him back, wouldn’t give him a second chance, his soul might settle a little with forgiveness.

Even so, Damon didn’t owe him anything.

What Trevor did was wrong. Awful, in fact. To hurt the one person in the whole world that loved you completely was…

Unforgiveable.

Trevor closed his eyes and pressed his fists to the sides of his thighs.

He should leave. But seeing Damon the other night had wrecked him. Especially when he saw that this “Mac” Damon had a date with was a woman.

Truthfully, it probably would have bothered him just as much if Mac had been another man.

He hadn’t pushed it, he let Damon leave with his date without another incident. Instead, Trevor had sat at the bar and did something he normally didn’t do anymore, drank until some of the sharp edges of the pain had dulled.

Then he went home.

Or back to his apartment, more like it. He had only moved in a few weeks ago so it still didn’t feel like home.

Truthfully, nothing felt like home since the day he left Damon all those years ago.

It had taken too long to realize Damon was “home” to him. Not being with him made Trevor homeless.

No matter what, he couldn’t keep standing in front of Damon’s home pitying himself.

But he struggled to pull himself from that darkness caused by missing a man so deeply that it was crippling. Damon had always been his light that kept that restlessness at bay, until Trevor had done something stupid and extinguished it.

As he lifted his hand to knock again, a car pulling into the driveway had him turning his head. The garage door lifted as the black Lexus sedan with tinted windows remained in the driveway, even after the door was open.

Trevor waited. The car waited.

Trevor’s heart thumped heavily in his chest, but he couldn’t make himself unfreeze his feet from the concrete stoop.

Then the engine revved slightly as the car pulled into the garage. Before Trevor could force himself to move, the garage door closed.

He remained at the front door, willing it to open.

Fifteen minutes later, he nodded, whispered, “I’m sorry,” turned on his heels and went back to his car.

Damon wasn’t ready to forgive him.

Quite possibly, he might never be.

Love doesn’t exist…

Or so Tyler Johnson thinks.  He’s never had much, if any, of it thrown his way.  A chance meeting with the enigmatic Jaxon Markham causes Ty to—if still not believe in love—at least know without a doubt that lust is alive and well.  Ty’s not looking for forever, but what’s the harm in spending a few days, and scorching nights, with Jax—as long as Jax plays by his rules and keeps things casual and uncomplicated?

Jax knows his luck has finally changed for the better when he lays eyes on Tyler.  The man is gorgeous, and stirs feelings in Jax he’d never thought he would experience. The more time Jax spends with Ty, the more certain he is that Ty’s his soulmate.  Now all that remains is convincing the stubborn Tyler of that elating fact. Jax is more than up for the task, because he’s nothing if not persistent—a fact the elusive Tyler is soon made aware of.

Jax quickly, and much too easily, demolishes all of Ty’s protective walls and Ty reluctantly begins to think that maybe, just maybe that intangible emotion called love is alive and well after all, and perhaps finally within his grasp.  However, when his ugly past returns to haunt him, making him doubt all the good he’s experienced with and because of Jax, Ty’s positive outlook crumbles, giving way to doubt, fear and despair making him wonder if he can truly be the man Jax needs and deserves—or will past and present demons destroy Ty’s one chance at true happiness?

Excerpt

“Since we’ve been dating for a week, and after last night—which was fucking fantastic by the way,” Jax began. “Can I—”

“I totally agree,” Ty interrupted around a kiss.

“Mmmm, good.”  Jax nibbled at his lower lip.   “In that case, I hope I’ve proven I‘m not a loon.”

“You wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t,” Ty assured him with a chuckle.

“Good to know.”  Jax fingered his hair before resting his arm along the back of the sofa. “Since you now trust me to know where you live, have invited me into your home, bed and…your body—for which I’m very grateful, I might add.”

“Yes?” Ty’s breath arrested at Jax’s statement and the downright decadent look in his eyes.

“I was thinking that maybe I can know your last name.”  Jax gave him a wink and begged, “Please?”

Ty’s chuckle quickly morphed into a full-blown laugh as he leaned into Jax’s side.  He laid his head on Jax’s shoulder and smiled up at him. He really liked this man.

“Well…since you now know my body intimately, I guess I can tell you my last name.”   Ty acquiesced and informed, “It’s Johnson.”

“It’s nice to meet you Tyler Johnson.”  Jax brushed strands of his hair off his forehead and reciprocated, “I’m Jaxon Markham.”

Ty’s grin slowly fell and he sat up, staring at Jax horrified.   Yep, horrified was the perfect word for how he felt.  His eyes grew wide with shock and his mouth fell open as he struggled not to pass out.  He shot off the sofa, quickly standing as if he’d been burned. Oh fuck, this is Jaxon Markham?  It can’t be.

Wait a minute, Ty tried to calm himself.   Maybe he wasn’t the same Jaxon Markham Ty was thinking of.  But…hell, it wasn’t a common name; Jax had to be the Jaxon Markham Ty knew—well, knew of.  When that appalling possibility raced through his mind, he suddenly remembered where he’d seen Jax before—the jacket of his latest legal-thriller novel, which Ty had read twice, and owned along with the six others Jax had written.   Jax had sported a beard on the book jacket, and his hair had been longer, which is why he hadn’t immediately placed him.

Jax was a famous writer, but that wasn’t the worst of it.  Jaxon Markham was also soon to be his… He closed his eyes and shook his head trying to ward off that unwelcomed thought.  Horrified eyes sprang open, and he stared speechlessly at an obviously baffled Jax.

Oh shit, I had sex with Jaxon Markham!  How fucked up is that?

Take What You Want…

Brandon Rosen is a man who refuses to admit what he wants—namely, a life with another man.  Being gay just won’t do.  It will not go over well with his family, particularly his overbearing father.  Thus, for years Brandon has tried to tamp down his attraction to men, refusing to entertain even the possibility that his other half might be a…him.  That was the plan and it had worked wonderfully until he meets Simon Carter—an arrogant star swimmer and law school student who also happens to be the best friend of Brandon’s first and only miserably-failed attempt at dating a man.

Simon is constantly in Brandon’s face taunting him to admit he’s gay.   The more confrontations he has with the stunningly handsome man, the harder it becomes for Brandon to deny the part of himself he thought he’d buried years ago—the one that craves the touch of another man, and now not just any man…but Simon—the one person who hates his guts.

Simon Carter is self-assured, knows who he is and what he wants out of life.  He’s a no-nonsense kind of guy who will do anything to protect his loved ones, so when his best friend’s asshole ex, Brandon Rosen, makes an unexpected reappearance in their lives, Simon is determined to keep Brandon from ruining his friend’s new relationship.  That will be easy to do—right? Simon thought so, but what he didn’t count on was an insane attraction to the deeply closeted man.

Simon soon finds out there’s just something about Brandon that reels him in, no matter how mightily he fights against it, making him question what kind of man he is to want anything to do with the person who once broke his best friend’s heart?  He doesn’t know, but one thing quickly becomes apparent—he craves Brandon Rosen, and despite his better judgment, he intends to have him…consequences be damned.

Goodreads

Excerpt

Brandon watched mesmerized as Simon’s mocking lips slowly lowered toward his.  His parted in anticipation of touch and being devoured, but before his silent wish was granted, he found the strength to push out of Simon’s loose embrace and take a few steps to the side, ending all physical contact between them.  He needed to stop this. He couldn’t—wouldn’t—give into the insane desire coursing through him…not for a man, and certainly not for this man.

“You need to leave me alone,” Brandon firmly suggested, even though his heart was beating so loudly in his ears, it deafened him.

“Why?”

“Because, I’ve told you repeatedly that I’m not into men.”

Simon laughed heartily and gave him a chastising look before accusing, “I’ve never met someone more into men than you, Blondie.”   Then he smugly coaxed, “Why don’t you admit it? Things would be so much easier if you did.”

They’d become that much more complicated, Brandon silently admitted.  Having a relationship with a man would throw his world into complete and utter chaos—that was something he was determined to avoid at all costs.  With that in mind, he straightened his spine and hardened his expression, and tamped down his overwhelming want for the man staring at him like he was a meal he couldn’t wait to devour.  Oh hell, I need to get out of here…now!

“If we’re unfortunate enough to meet again, keep your damned hands to yourself,” Brandon ordered and without waiting for a response, he jerked open his car door and got inside, slamming it shut behind him.

Just to fuck with him, Brandon was sure, Simon leaned down and rapped his knuckles on the dark tinted window.  He waited a few seconds thinking over the pros and cons of lowering it, but eventually despite his good sense, he did just that.

“What?” he tightly asked the man staring down at him.

“What about my lips?” Simon flippantly asked in response to Brandon’s previous statement.

“Fuck off,” Brandon growled, raising his window again.  When there was another knock, he sighed loudly before rolling it down a bit, not bothering to hide his irritation as he gritted out, “Now what?”

Smiling eyes danced over his face, lingering on his lips before Simon said the last thing he expected, “Nice car.”

He frowned and uncertainly responded, “Thanks.”

Simon placed a hand on the hood of the car, leaned in closer and, in a bedroom voice if ever he’d heard one, suggested, “Maybe one day soon you’ll take me for a nice, long ride.
