Blurb

Archie’s posh parents want him to meet a nice girl—how can he tell them he’s fallen for a bad boy instead?

Closeted, innocent and lonely, Archie Arandale longs for someone special in his life. A Christmas party organised by his wealth management company is the last place he expects to meet the man of his dreams.

With his leather jacket, tattoos, and piercings, Cal Turner turns heads the moment he walks through the door. He definitely isn’t looking for a boyfriend, but Archie’s hesitant charm captures his attention, and sneaking off during the party to have a little fun can only make a dull evening more interesting.

After their reckless and thrilling encounter, Archie is keen for more experience and Cal is happy to oblige. The need for secrecy means this can only be a casual fling, yet as they spend time together in the run up to Christmas, their feelings become more intense than either of them had bargained for. How can Archie find the courage to tell his family about Cal, when Cal’s the exact opposite of the ‘nice girl’ they’ve been hoping for?

Contains: A closeted virgin, a tattooed biker, class differences, a dramatic coming out, a very inappropriate Christmas gift, and a happy ending (of course).

MY REVIEW

This is a lovely low-angst, opposites attract, Christmas romance.

I adored Cal, the tattooed ‘working class’ biker. Visually, he may have appeared intimidating to Archie’s parents and others at first sight, but he had a heart of gold. There was nothing nasty about him.

I sympathised with Archie for having overbearing parents who imposed their social commitments and politics on him and for making the prospect of coming out a frightening one.

Jay brought these two ideally-matched characters together and, from the start, the chemistry is smouldering despite their social differences. The two lovebirds enjoyed plenty of sizzling moments. The more time they spent together, the more Archie’s confidence grew.

An uplifting and fun Christmas read with a great cast of secondary characters who add to the enjoyment of the story.

About the Author

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn’t stopped writing since.

Blurb

One hard-nosed military police officer.

One overly enthusiastic elf.

One poorly timed snowstorm.

Is it a recipe for disaster? Or a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for holiday romance?

Teddy MacNally loves Christmas and everything that goes along with it. When he plays an elf for his charity’s events, he never expects to be paired with a Scrooge masquerading as Santa Claus. His new mission: make the holiday-hating soldier believe he was born to say ho-ho-ho.

Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki doesn’t do Santa, but he’s army to his blood. When his CO asks an unusual favor, Nick of course obliges. The elf to his Kris Kringle? Tempting. Too tempting—Nick’s only in town for another month, and Teddy’s too young, too cheerful and too nice for a one-night stand.

The slow, sexy make-out sessions while Teddy and Nick are alone and snowbound, though, feel like anything but a quick hookup. As a stress-free holiday fling turns into Christmas all year round, Teddy can’t imagine his life without Nick. And Nick’s days on the base may be coming to a close, but he doesn’t plan on leaving anything, or anyone, behind.

My Review

A delightful festive story featuring a May/December couple who meet a month before Christmas. Nick is the grumpy Sgt. Major about to retire from the army and Teddy is the lively and kind-hearted ‘elf’. I liked the initial friction and the interaction that occurs between them, plus the steamy scenes as they become friends and lovers in those few short weeks. What I liked most was the angst surrounding Nick’s impending departure to Florida. The goodbye scene and their last few days together had me in tears. Kudos to the author for building up to this point in the story. I loved the happy ending for these two characters who were ideally suited for each other.

I enjoyed reading the story, particularly the second half, and listened to the audiobook soon after—superbly narrated by Sean Crisden.
