MM/Paranormal Romance/Murder Mystery

Sometimes catching a murderer means risking one’s heart.

As a fae-vampire hybrid, scorned by all, Holden’s life has never been easy. The one bright spot is his job testing blood at supernatural crime scenes. It’s routine work, until the day he finds a victim he can’t read.

When one murder becomes two, and then three, it’s clear there’s a serial killer on the loose—one with a penchant for collecting hearts. Finding the bad guy could cement Holden’s career, but he’s drawing a blank. And it doesn’t help that the expert his boss calls in to assist him is the man Holden’s been crushing on for years.

With lives hanging in the balance, Holden and Val must solve the case before the killer strikes again. But will they come out with their hearts still intact?

New Release – Beastly Businessmen and Guitar Gods Asta Idonea

OUT NOW!

Beastly Businessmen and Guitar Gods

Asta Idonea

NineStar Press

23 July 2018

60,000 words

MM/Contemporary/Anthology

They say magic doesn’t exist in our modern age. But is that really true?

Without magic, how could a stolen guitar or a lost shoe lead to love?

What could spark romance at a workplace assessment, or turn a mean-spirited monster into a man?

Six fairytales and myths receive a contemporary MM twist in this collection of stories, which prove that sometimes the mundane can be magical too.

Dragged Into Love (Þrymskviða)

When Theo’s landlord steals his guitar in lieu of overdue rent, he tells Theo he will only return the instrument if he can go on a date with Theo’s twin sister. With Fran less than willing to play along, Theo is left with one option: to go in her place.

Love’s Code (Ariadne and Theseus)

In order to keep his job, Andre must pass an examination. However, his unspoken love for fellow programmer Eren proves a constant distraction, as does the identity of a mysterious benefactor who offers helps along the way.

Guessing Games (Rumplestiltskin)

A little white lie, told in his job interview, won Sasha his dream role. Only now he faces a pile of work he doesn’t know how to complete. When someone comes along with a solution to his dilemma, he is thrilled. But what price will he have to pay

Assignations and Ultimatums (The Strange Elopement of Tinirau)

Hunter and Ross are deeply in love, but Ross’s father is intent on setting him up with undesirable, yet powerful, older men. That’s bad enough, but the situation worsens when the latest of these potential partners turns out to be Ross’s boss.

Lost and Found (Cinderella)

Attendance at the company’s masquerade ball is compulsory. Cillian intends a swift departure once his presence has been noted, but he changes his mind when a dashing stranger asks him to dance. Love is in the air…until he uncovers the man’s identity.

A Debt is a Debt (Beauty and the Beast)

Dunstan Griffin is not a man accustomed to letting a debt slide. Therefore, when Alfred Siskin offers the EA services of his son, Wynn, in lieu of payment, Dunstan accepts. He intends to make the most of his new worker, but soon his desires change.

The death of Oakley’s sister has left his family broken and buried beneath their grief. In an attempt to get out from underneath their pain, they rent an isolated cottage in the Cotswolds. For Oakley, it’s an exercise in futility. He doesn’t see much hope for things to get back to the way they used to be, and he’s bored and restless as he waits out the time until he can return to the city and university. All of that changes when he meets local boy Bobby, and the connection between them is instant. Within a few days, Oakley is ready to walk away from everything to stay with Bobby. However, Bobby has problems of his own, and they might be more than the budding romance can survive. But they might also give Oakley a new perspective on his own situation.

Summer passed England by that year, as if it shared his family’s grief and refused to intrude upon such solemn days with unwanted sunshine. A cool, wet July turned into a blustery August, and now a dismal September loomed. From the window of their rented cottage, there was nothing but gray skies as far as the eye could see. The fields spread out in a patchwork of shortbread and moss. Plentiful rain meant the grass stood tall, but the lack of light filtering through thick, heavy clouds dulled its various shades of green. And this bleak scene was supposed to make everything better?

Oakley sighed and turned to the sink. He poured himself a glass of water from a spluttering, corroded tap and took a sip. Despite the dubious appearance of the fittings, the water was clean, tasteless, and refreshing. He supposed he should at least be thankful for that. It was likely to be the only pleasant thing this vacation would provide.

More about Asta Idonea

The prized possession you value above all others…

I have a few. My piano (because I waited so many years to finally get one), my collection of Robespierre books, my autograph collection and stage door photos.

The temptation you wish you could resist…

Chocolate. Though I’m determined to be good in 2017!

The book that holds everlasting resonance…

Another tough one. I’d say either Les Misérables or Eugene Onegin as they are both books I come back to time and time again.

The priority activity if you were invisible for a day…

Sneaking into cinema screenings or theatrical productions. Perhaps I’d play a few pranks on people along the way too.

The film you can watch time and time again…

The LOTR trilogy, Pan’s Labyrinth, and any film from MCU. On a deeper note, probably Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindOnly Lovers Left Alive, and Lost in Translation.

The unlikely interest that engages your curiosity…

I don’t know how ‘unlikely’ these are, but I adore learning foreign languages. In 2017 I’ve also taken up bullet journalling. I’m quite the history buff and have a particular interest in periods of revolution in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Plus I’m a keen snail-mail pen pal.

The event that altered the course of your life…

Backpacking in the US and Australia in 2007. I met a guy along the way and never went home!

The song that means the most to you…

On My Own from Les Misérables and Demons by Imagine Dragons.

The unfulfilled ambition that continues to haunt you…

I’d still love to sing a lead role in a musical.

The way you would spend your fantasy 24 hours, with no travel restrictions…

I’d probably waste the whole time procrastinating because I couldn’t decide which country I wanted to head to first! It would be a choice between Iceland, France, and the Czech Republic.

The pet hate that makes your hackles rise…

Bad grammar. And people who leave shops without checking if the path is clear and then dawdle in front of you.

The figure from history you would most like to buy a pie and a pint…

Robespierre. Or Sissi.

A dream romantic vacation to Iceland to see the Northern Lights turns into a nightmare when James’s workaholic boyfriend, Richard, again insists on putting his work first. After a call from Richard’s office, an argument ends with the couple splitting up for good. Not only has Richard left James, he’s left him abandoned to explore the park alone, where James quickly gets lost. But just when things seem darkest, the Solstice works its magic, and James finds the guiding light he needs. Or it finds him.

“NO. NO, Bob, listen to me. Bob, listen to me. Yes. No. Yes. Bob. Bob. Calm down.”

I turn off the tap, shake my hands over the sink, and reach for towel as I listen to the one-sided conversation drifting through from the next room. I don’t really know why I’m surprised. It’s not as if this hasn’t happened a hundred times before. Richard and I will make plans, and then that damn phone of his will vibrate, emitting the inane, grimace-inducing ringtone I’ve never been able to stand, and everything will unravel.

Richard and I met at a Christmas party five years ago, just before he started his job at Robert Preston & Associates. To date, that was the one and only Christmas we’ve managed to spend together. Every year since, something work-related has called him away. He does his best to make it home for dinner on my birthday, which falls during the holidays, but even that is touch-and-go. Some years I’ve ended up celebrating alone, surrounded by fast-cooling, half-eaten slices of pizza and a pile of empty beer cans.

For months I’ve been begging him for this overseas trip. We’ve been going through a tough patch, and I thought spending the holidays together—without interruptions, just the two of us—would go a long way toward healing the rift. I’d held out hope that the distances involved would grant us some measure of security, that the fact that we were out of the country would make Bob think twice before dialing. But it appears I was wrong.
