My Top Reads and Audiobooks ~ April – June

Back in December I signed up to the Goodreads Challenge.

Not having done this before and not knowing how many books I’d read in a year, I entered a nice round number of one hundred. I intended to include the ebooks I’d read as well as the audiobooks I listened to. I thought an average of two a week would be achievable. To my surprise and delight, I achieved the challenge and I’ve now increased my total to one hundred and fifty books.

In no particular order, here are my recommended books from the last three months

eBooks

Check out the books I’ve read so far.

I’d love to hear about some of your favourite stories.

Here’s my post for recommended reads from January to March.

Rainbow Snippets ~ June 25th

RAINBOW SNIPPETS

This week’s Rainbow Snippet is taken from my taboo story

Let Your Heart Decide

Let Your Heart Decide

Reaching the wall, I placed my hands on the damp stone and gripped it hard. I drew in a calming breath, prepared to leap back, frightened that something or someone would jump up and scare the life out of me. I peered into the gloom, giving my sight the chance to adjust to the darkness. Tree trunks and branches, undergrowth and smaller bushes came into view—nothing untoward.

I removed my suddenly cold hands from the wall.

A soft rustling drew my attention downward. A mouse or rabbit, I hoped, although I tensed again anyway. That eerie, uneasy feeling persisted.

Thank you for reading!

From HELL BOUND
Asta Idonea

Asmodeus glanced up when he heard the approaching footfall. That familiar tread, first assured then hesitant, brought a gleeful smile to his lips. But he schooled his features into an expression of nonchalance before the faint knock sounded.

“Come.” He allowed himself a moment to appreciate his imperious tone; then he refocused his attention on the leather-bound volume in his hands.

Taharial slipped into the room, accompanied by a blast of Hell-Fire heat from outside. Asmodeus could feel the weight of his gaze, but he chose to let him stew for a moment. He’d discovered a little heightened tension at the start of their interview never failed to add to the enjoyment later on.

“Asmodeus.”

Asmodeus kept his back turned, although the sound of his name, spoken in that small, beseeching voice, gave him goosebumps. “Here again so soon, Taharial? What would your dear brothers say?” He tutted and twisted in his seat.

Taharial looked delectable as he stared at the floor and wrung his hands. The sight of him with shoulders, head, and wings all drooped was one with which Asmodeus was by now well acquainted, yet it ignited a fire within him every time.

“Please, Asmodeus.” Taharial looked up and met his eyes. “I-I need it.”

Asmodeus slipped the feather into the book to mark his place. Then he set the volume aside, stretched his legs, and rose.

An enjoyable collection of stories of various lengths, all loosely themed under the banner of BDSM.

There’s a few collars and cuffs involved, but there’s also some wax play, the use of restraints and blindfolds, D/s type relationships, subspace, and safewords scattered among these well-written stories.

FORGED IN STEEL by Layla Dorine 4*

The last thing Flint expected upon discovering a homeless young man rummaging through the dumpster behind his shop was a kindred spirit.

The last thing Trace expected to find in that dumpster was a home.

This story is about the building of trust between two men and the development of a relationship where one is commanded to do things by the other.

PLAYING IT SAFE by Aimee Brissay 4.5*

To safe or not to safe?

That is the question.

This would have been my favourite story in the anthology if it hadn’t ended so abruptly and left open-ended. Most of the story focuses on the interaction between a Dom and the sub of his friend as they play out a scene without the use of a safeword. I felt as if I was in the room with them.

ROOM TO PLAY by Lily Velden 4*

Jack wanted to dabble in some light BDSM, looking for a little role play. A little role-reversal.

Rhys took to their games like a duck to water.

A sizzling recount of a couple’s venture into bondage and domination as they decide whether to commit to a twenty-four seven  D/s relationship or not.

A TOUCH OF KINK by Alina Popescu 4*

A moody and angry Tudor follows his friend, Radu, to the airport to pick up a client.

Despite Radu’s efforts, he’s still sulking over his boyfriend, Kahoni, not being able to fly over for his birthday.

But the airport only opens up the door to a stream of steamy surprises for Tudor. Will his mood improve?

A sweet birthday surprise story involving bondage kink. Great characters in this one.

LET’S DANCE IN SIN by Kassandra Lea 3.5*

Samuel wants to play with his favorite toy and Flynn is only too willing to oblige.

But first, he has a little treat for his delectable angel.

Heavenly pleasures for these angels who meet for a romp.

NEW LOVE, NEW SIGHT by Carol Pedroso 3.5*

Exiled and lonely, Sorl longs for home.

Kidnapped, blind, and scared, Unjarf seeks help of any kind.

When they meet can love bring rescue, hope, and most importantly new sight?

An enjoyable story set in a BDSM club in an alternate universe.

SWITCH by Eddy LeFey 4.5*

Robert is floundering, trying to get his life back together.

Daniel offers to help, to teach Robert what it means to truly let go of control, in order to be able to seize it again.

Life truly is a…. Switch.

I enjoyed the slow build of this story as Robert’s new relationship develops with Daniel and we gradually discover what happened in Robert’s horrendous past. The climax of the story was exciting, but I would have loved to have read at least one D/s based scene between Robert and Daniel.

HELL BOUND by Asta Idonea  4.5*

When Taharial, angel of purity, descends to Hell to reprimand him, lust demon Asmodeus cannot resist having a little fun with his unwanted guest.

However, when he chains Taharial to his bed, events take a turn he didn’t expect.

Great story and excellent writing. Again, this story has more of a faux bondage theme, but I loved the idea of an angel and a demon making out in Hell. I could certainly picture the beautiful tableau of a winged angel riding a demon on his bed. And Asmodeus was such a nice hot demon too!

From Picked Fresh

Jude shifted in his seat and stared at Hudson. Hudson couldn’t take his eyes off the road, but the desire to turn toward Jude and mirror him was overwhelming. “What was your first impression of me when I met you at the farmers market?”

“Should I be diplomatic or honest?”

“Honest.”

Hudson ran that day over in his mind. It was crystal clear, still, even though it had been more than nine months ago. Jude had meandered from stand to stand. He initially stood out from the crowd because of what he was wearing: a bright blue, almost turquoise wool coat over a black turtleneck and tight black jeans. In the blur of quilted plaid flannel and fleece hoodies in various shades of drab, olive, and Carhartt, Jude was all Hudson could see.

“I couldn’t keep my eyes off you. You were… stunning.” He shook his head. “I don’t know another word for it. I was talking to some customer about how we raised our chickens, and when I saw you, I stopped midsentence. I stared, felt like a dirty old man because you looked so young, and when I turned back to the woman to carry on our conversation, I had no idea what we’d been talking about. Literally none. It was like looking at you sucked the words out of my throat and the thoughts right out of my head.”

Jude chuckled. “Seriously? Was it the coat?”

“It made you stand out, but no, it wasn’t the coat. It was everything about you. Your broad shoulders and your hair and your eyes and your fucking lips.”

“You like my lips?” Jude pulled his rose-flavored lip stuff out of his front pocket and made a show of smearing it across the bottom one. Then he rubbed his lips together and licked them, all while staring at Hudson with soft bedroom eyes.

The bus vibrated, a jagged noise piercing Hudson’s ears as he drove too far to the right, edging his tires onto the rumble strip. “¡Coño!” He maneuvered back into the center of his lane.

Jude laughed. Hudson’s heart thundered against his rib cage.

“You’re evil,” Hudson said. “Evil, I tell you!”

“Maybe.” Jude bit at his bottom lip.

“Stop. Stop tempting me with your fucking gorgeous mouth. I can’t have you doing that shit while I’m driving.”

“Okay.” Jude smirked but kept his tongue and teeth from doing anything else. He put away those hazel sex-eyes too. “So, how did you see this trip going down?”

“Just like that?” Hudson was incredulous.

“What?”

“You can just turn it on and off like a switch?”

“With you, sure.”

“Well, I can’t.” Hudson gestured to his crotch, where his dick was obvious, thick, and quickly moving on its way to fully hard, even though Jude had stopped the licking and the biting.

“Want me to touch you?” Jude’s voice was breathy as he slid his warm palm up Hudson’s inner thigh. He thumbed over the head of Hudson’s cock, and Hudson got harder. Jude played with just the head, moving back and forth, his touch light and delicious.

“Want me to drive off the road?” Hudson managed not to sound choked off.

“No.” Jude pulled his hand away and smiled like the devil. “I want you to drive. And I want you to tell me about what you want to do on this trip besides the obvious. And for the record, turning it off doesn’t happen like a switch. Turning me on with one look, easy!”

“You’re dangerous.”

“Damn right I am.”

Picked Fresh Bus

cropped-Rainbow-Header copy 3

Picked Fresh follows straight on from Farm Fresh. Hudson and Jude go on a road trip in a fabulous VW Microbus. They deal with the past demons that plagued them in Book 1 as they tackle family issues and the parents who treated them badly, but at least they have each other for support as they seek closure. The guys have plenty of alone time too as they travel on this long journey across many states, getting to know each other better, even though they still struggle to express their true feelings. Jude also has a chance to explore his sexuality further, leaving Hudson to worry whether he’ll be enough for Jude in the future.

We still get a glimpse of what’s happening at Kaleidoscope Gardens while the Hudson and Jude are on their road trip. After deciding to become an exclusive couple within the commune, Leo is feeling off kilter and is definitely missing the guys while they are away, especially Hudson who he’s known and loved for many years. He’s also tired and feeling his age as he ponders his future and the commune as a whole.

I enjoyed this story and Posy’s fluent and emotion-packed writing. I loved reading more about Jude and Hudson’s intense relationship and how they offered each other such unconditional support. Their intimate scenes are beautifully expressed and reflect the deep feelings they now share. There’s plenty of character growth as the story unfolds and we find out more about their respective pasts.

Let Your Heart Decide

I had the distinct impression I was being watched. A shiver rippled along my arms and the hairs prickled from my skin as a chill swept over me.

Man up, Rhys. There’s no one out there.

And just to prove to myself—and my ex—that I could man up, I’d pull up my big-boy pants and check it out all on my own.

Goddammit, why am I even thinking about Myles tonight?

I’d successfully shut him out of my mind for most of the day and all of the past few weeks.

Starting over at forty is hard work for landscape architect Jack Bowman. His long-term partner hurt him badly. With his self-esteem dented by the break up, trusting a new lover is going to take time.

Tyler Freeman is equally unlucky when it comes to love. Now that he’s over thirty-five, he’s tired of getting played. All he wants is someone special. How hard can it be to meet a man who’s honest, with no hidden surprises?

Being set up on a blind date might be a classic cliché, but it’s a stroke of good luck for Jack and Tyler. They have a lot in common, including previous relationships steeped in deceit, but it’s worth navigating their trust issues if it means laying those ghosts to rest.

Making it work finally seems possible—until an accidental discovery threatens their newfound happiness.

cropped-Rainbow-Header copy 6

Everyone said their goodbyes, and Jack tried not to notice the blatant, knowing looks being passed around. He had no doubt he’d be getting some nosy texts later. On the plus side, at least he wouldn’t be the only one.

Now it was only the two of them, they wandered into the bar area and snagged a small table by the fireplace. It wasn’t lit—the late-April weather had been far too mild to warrant an open fire. The Saturday-night crowd from earlier had clearly moved on to somewhere else, and the room had quietened considerably.

“Thanks for offering me a lift.” Tyler smiled and took a sip of his drink. “I wasn’t ready to leave yet.”

“Me neither.” Jack had bought another Coke, and he ran his finger down through the condensation on the outside of the glass. “I have to admit I was a bit—a lot sceptical about whether or not this was a good idea.”

Tyler glanced up and met his gaze. “Meeting me?”

Jack’s smile was wry. “I was talking about the whole blind date thing, but yeah… I guess it was meeting you in general.” He cringed as he said it, perhaps not the best thing to say to someone whom you were hoping to go out with again. And despite Jack’s misgivings and preconceptions, he liked Tyler.

Tyler cocked his head to one side and frowned, as though he wasn’t sure how to feel about that. Jack had probably offended him, because no one liked to hear that sort of thing. But then, he’d offered to drive Tyler home so they could spend more time together—alone—so Tyler must realise Jack wanted to get to know him better. Or maybe not. If Jack had learned one thing from his breakup with Simon, it was that communication was key. Never assume someone knew what you meant or what you were thinking.

“I know that sounds bad, and it’s nothing personal. Christ, I’m pulling out all the clichés tonight, but it really was a case of it being me and not you.” Jack laughed and scrubbed a hand over his face. “Shit. Just when it was going so well. I’ve managed to fuck it up, haven’t I?”

cropped-Rainbow-Header copy 3

4*

I always enjoy Annabelle’s writing and her very English characters and settings. I had the pleasure of proofreading this story and loved it. It made a change to read about older men facing the challenge of dating again after being hurt by their previous partners and left in a vulnerable state. It’s a realistic and romantic tale of seeking a second chance at love and my heart went out to both guys.

Jack’s longtime partner had cheated on him and Tyler’s previous relationship ended in disaster. They are attracted to each other and get on well, but are wary of falling again and getting hurt. They lay their feelings and worries on the line quite boldly from the start. Although the idea of dating again is daunting, being mature men, they know what they want and go about getting it, albeit rather carefully. Both these insecure men want to be loved, but are cautious for much of the story because of their painful pasts are still very much in the present. They spend time on their conversations and speak with honesty. No miscommunication or major tantrums here. It’s all about slowly learning to trust someone else again. I adored how Annabelle expresses their thoughts and feelings and loved how fate worked its way into their lives.

This touching story is well paced and held my interest throughout. It’s about these two guys working things out between themselves, forging how they want their relationship to work, and learning to realize there is always another side to a story. They have supportive friends and families and these characters all added to my enjoyment of the  story. The short epilogue was sweet and finally gave the guys their HEA.

Can I just say I love the cover guy! *sighs*

Annabelle Jacobs lives in the South West of England with three rowdy children, and two cats. An avid reader of fantasy herself for many years, Annabelle now spends her days writing her own stories. They’re usually either fantasy or paranormal fiction, because she loves building worlds filled with magical creatures, and creating stories full of action and adventure. Let Your Heart Decide

Leaves rustled on the ground on the other side of the stone wall.

Yet there was no breeze on this calm evening. The branches remained still.

Yes, there it was again—definitely movement. Perhaps a cat or some other animal scurrying around.

I sat up in the chair, alert, my back erect. Not that I was the nervous type. Myles would have laughed and called me a fucking wuss. I huffed. He’d have probably been right.

Reviews for Let Your Heart Decide

10649941_367336086748010_2585277046155140172_n

I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has purchased Let Your Heart Decide and to those wonderful friends and followers who shared posts and links via Facebook, Twitter, and other social media. It was greatly appreciated.

I’ve been overwhelmed by some of the fabulous comments readers have made about my taboo story via their blogs and reviews. I’m going to share some of the highlights with you in this post.

I would like to make a comment about the ending of the story without giving away any spoilers as several people have commented on it. I wanted to give my boys a HEA and to some extent I have done that, although I have left the future for them open. I debated over this issue long and hard as I was writing the story, but in the end I wanted the reader to be part of the experience.  Your reaction to the story is the reaction Rhys and Jake might face in the future from friends, family and colleagues.

I hope you ‘Let Your Heart Decide’.

So, here are snippets of reviews and the links so you can read the full reviews of the story.

“I have never read anything quite like this book; WOW.”

“Hmmm. I usually have no trouble starting a review. But with this book…I just don’t know where to begin. My head is spinning.

I bought this book on June 21. I finished this book on June 21. I could not put this book down. Strong writing, strong characters, fully developed plot and subplots. There was some angst but not the kind that makes you want to pull your hair out and cuss the characters out. There were some scary, gut clenching moments. There were sweet, honest, romantic moments and there were some sexy times. This book has it all.”

5*

“I totally fell in love with Rhys from the first moment I ‘met’ him and was instantly drawn into his story as he let it unfold, the loss of his mother was still fresh but couple that with losing his brother from his life and the pain felt real. It is he way that Lily shows you rather than tells which draws me into her books, and this one was no exception.

Rhys is trying to start over his life, make a fresh start and finally face his past, but it’s never quite that easy is it? Well, obviously not, but this a delicate and sensitive subject and process which is very, very well handled. Rhys is clearly shell shocked at the breakdown of his relationship with his now ex, Myles, and it sends him running home after a two year absence. Returning home and meeting up with his estranged brother is a big step for both of them. There are clearly more than the feelings of brotherly love bubbling beneath the surface still.

Then you add in a bit of a mystery, a story of loss and love and stories of ghosts and mysteries and you have me well and truly hooked, to the point where read over half of the book in one sitting. I literally couldn’t put it down.

The characters were well thought out, the emotions and interactions were almost lyrical in their feel. Nothing was left to chance, or missed out.

This was a brave and difficult subject matter to handle, and was the first taboo story I have read. It would’ve been easy to go for the easy option with this, but I always find that Lily will take the other route, and this shone through. It never once felt wrong to read about the love and connection that Rhys and Jake shared, in fact, it felt like I was intruding at times due to the level of intimacy which wasn’t always purely of a sexual nature between Myles and Jake.

Add in a love affair which almost mirrors theirs, but one set many years before. Two lovers who loved, and lost each other. There are ghosts of more than their love haunting the large country estate which backs onto Myles’ house

The scenes of intimacy were hot, but also tender. The love and emotional connection between these two men felt so right, it was meant to be. There is no way that a love so tender and consuming could ever be wrong.

It goes to show that the love you feel isn’t something you choose, your heart picks a soul rather than a person based on their looks etc, and you cannot argue with what your heart decides it wants.

I was left wanting more, to know that these two made it in the future, that fate wasn’t cruel enough to rip them apart and they got the HEA they were leaving me with and so badly deserved.

The book left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside, and goes to show, love IS love.”

“So many tears. I can’t stop crying. I just can’t. The dual love stories of the brothers separated by a century and the ghosts just wrecked me. Rhys and Jake, and Samuel and Thomas were heartbreaking and poignant. Jet was adorable and the ghosts creepy and mournful. The taboo angst was sexy but not overdone at all. Very pleased. I need more from this author.”

5*

“Every so often, a book comes along that restores and redefines your faith in the m/m romance genre. This was such a book for me. It was sweet, hot, sensual, and suspenseful–everything that I need in a really great read. Yes, Rhys and Jake were brothers as well as lovers, but this very much takes a back seat to their relationship. The author does a marvelous job of not painting the situation with a sensationalist brush; not focusing on the taboo nature of it while not dismissing it entirely. I need more…”

4*

“I really enjoyed reading Jake and Rhys’s story it was beautifully written, dealing not just with the taboo relationship but also the consequences and the guilt. The side characters of Thomas and Samuel was intriguing and I really wanted to see the mystery solved and how it was interwoven with Jake and Rhys’s relationship. It pulled me in from the start and i didn’t want to put it down. It was heartwarming and funny…”

5*

“The love of a soul mate will stay with you forever…and the forever after. Two love stories intertwined, in the present and from beyond time, both helping the other to find their way back to the person they can’t be whole without. A story of acceptance, finding peace, and above all else, love. Mystery and intrigue drew me in, and the loving of souls kept me there.”

Wine Between the Lines

“The writing is very subtle in the book. There is no sensationalism, no tantalizing, cheap use of the incest theme to drive the plot. This was a very beautifully written book that tells not one but two love stories. It’s important to note that, unlike a lot of books in this taboo genre, this is not a story told for shock value. It is, first and foremost, a love story, not erotica, not porn on paper. So a reader going into this looking for taboo sex may find the story slow and unsatisfying. Don’t get me wrong, there’s sex. Hot sex. But it comes later in the story, after Rhys and Jake reconnect and fall in love again.”

Heat Rating: Off the charts!

“This is a love with a HEA but one that we know will always have obstacles to overcome. I loved that it was a slow build it made them finally coming together so much hotter and sweeter. The addition of all the secondary characters was just as perfectly woven into the story as the rest of the pieces. Each bringing a part that was needed into the story from the neighbors to the ghosts they all worked to bring Rhys and Jake to their HEA.”

MM Book Escape

“A very powerful and gripping story where I was consumed by every word the author penned. Some will consider this taboo and not give it the credit it deserves, but in my opinion, this is a perfect reflection of love is love. A bond that is so strong that regardless to where you are you feel the pull and the need to be as close as humanly possible. Your sexual desires cannot be extinguished by any other until the two come together clashing teeth and tongues, pulling and pushing, biting and scratching to get every single piece of each other. I was completely absorbed with these moments and had to say to myself…breathe.”

Rian’s Randomness

“Ordinary everyday moments like taking a walk through the field are followed by heart-wrenching thoughts of forbidden love, by sweet memories and then by sightings of ghosts. I’ve never read such a fine mix between contemporary or supernatural. The setting the writer chose helps for it – the English country with its history which you can practically breathe in the air.”

GGR Reviews

“The setting of this story, in rural Britain, is gorgeous and I would love to visit the Hall and the woods, especially the little church and the grounds.

The plot is solid and not all that far-fetched and the pace of the story is quick enough to keep you interested, yet not so fast that your head’s spinning.

Finally, I have to commend the editor; they have done a great job.”

Louise Lyons

“This story grabbed hold of my heart from the first few pages. Lily G Blunt writes with feeling and sensuality, making your heart ache for the main characters, brother Rhys and Jake, and for the parallel history of Thomas and Samuel, brothers painfully torn apart.”

The Way She Reads

“The attraction between Rhys and Jake is palatable just as Rhys’s doubts and hesitations make perfect sense. Their reunion after two years apart and their journey back towards each other had me on the edge of my seat even more than the ghostly part of the story had. While the mystery certainly captivated me I couldn’t wait to see when and how Rhys and Jake would find a way to be all they were destined to become.”

Sinfully Gay Romance Book Reviews

“This was a beautifully written and thoughtful story. The relationship between the brothers takes center stage, with the ghost story complementing it. I didn’t feel the romance was played for shock value, but it felt organic and pure as any other two men falling for each other. The brothers reminisce about growing up together and through that the reader is given good insight into the closeness the two always shared, their sexual explorations as teens sharing a bedroom and how it continued into adulthood.”

~O~

Two Men are Better Than One

“I loved the way the story was a contemporary story but hinted at paranormal elements. The historical components were also fascinating, weaved through the story as Rhys finds about the area he has moved in to. So as you read the book you learn about Rhys and his relationship with his brother and about him forging new friendships as he moves back to town after a two year absence. Alongside this is the story of the family who used to live in the Hall, a grand house nearby.”

RAINBOW SNIPPETS

This week’s Rainbow Snippet is taken from my taboo story

Let Your Heart Decide

Let Your Heart Decide

This excerpt continues from last week…

A cry.
Outside.
And close by.
Not a baby nor a fox, but a man. I lay there, heart thumping, straining to hear in the darkness, trying to pick out the sound and its direction. But nothing came.
In the long quiet that followed, I remembered again how Jake used to hold me when I was scared, or when I came home from school crying because bullies had called me names or pushed me around. He’d stood up for me, protected me, and one day the bullying stopped. I always thought it was because of Jake’s intervention, although he never told me what he did to make it better. I never asked him. One day I would.
The quiet of the night buzzed in my ears.
Maybe the cry was a dream, after all.

Confidential Encounters Anthology ~ Interview with Louisa Mae

A warm welcome to Louisa Mae and congratulations on the release of your first story in the Confidential Encounters Anthology.

Interview with Louisa Mae

Getting to know you…

What is your favorite movie? Hands down, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Seen it countless times, I am word perfect, and that includes ALL aspects of audience partici….pation.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I either wanted to be a nurse, or a librarian. Not that much different I know. As a child, I loved going to my local library with my dad, and it a such a magical world. Now the thought of being  nurse turns my stomach I get queasy at the sight of blood, my own is fine but when I see things on tv about hospitals, I can’t watch.

What were you like in school?

Very quiet. I know a total shocker. The change happened for me when I left school and went to college, I found my voice and confidence. The rest, as they say is history.

What sound do you love to hear or make?

Thunderstorms. LOVE the sound of thunder rumbling and the noise lightning makes when it cracks through the air.

Now a few questions about your writing…

How long have you been writing and what made you fall in love with writing?

I’ve been writing for five years now. But this is the first story I have published other than some fanfiction. For me, it’s the fact you can express yourself and bring life to characters that (hopefully) people will love.

Can you give the readers a brief summary of your latest story?

Below The Line

When confirmed bachelor Connor James arrived at work sporting the hangover from hell, the last person he expected to see was his most recent one night stand. Despite Mr Tall, Dark and Handsome being the hottest person he’s ever met, Connor isn’t looking for a relationship, but fate it seems has other plans.

When self-made businessman Jason Birch took ownership of the up-and-coming marketing firm, the only thing he expected to find was another addition to his expanding firm, Ad-Venture. Coming face to face with his one and only random hook up from the previous night throws Jason a curveball. His every thought since he left their hotel room has been about hunting the sexy blond down, but a relationship with an employee isn’t going to happen.

One night was all either expected from the chance meeting, and an office affair is the last thing they need, but they’re unable to deny the passion which draws them together.

What led you to write this story?

I was asked by my good friend, Nicole Colville, well I say asked it more corralled, if I wanted to join a writing project she was planning. Where she would put a charity anthology together to give us the experience of publishing while raising money for a great cause. The charity is getting 100% of the proceeds. Nicole is covering all the editing and cover costs herself. We chose a LGBT charity that works worldwide. The link is here: http://kaleidoscopetrust.com/

What genre does it fall in?

It’s M/M romance.

Please share an excerpt from your story.

As I stared at him, hearing but not taking in the words he was speaking as he addressed us, realisation dawned on me. Well, it more crashed through the door and knocked me flat on my back. I knew the man standing before me, and not just in the ‘he looks kinda familiar’ way. I knew him intimately. I wanted to crawl under the nearest desk and hide, or if not possible, I’d settle for the floor opening up and swallowing me, a portal opening to another dimension. Anything but standing there.

He continued to speak, but I wasn’t focusing on the words coming from his highly talented mouth. Jason was everything I remembered him to be, and so much more. He was a commanding presence—everyone else in the office was enthralled. He was strong, confident and oozed sex appeal. This was the man who’d kept me up most of last night while he ravaged my body, tearing orgasms from it before I finally passed out in his hotel bed, exhausted.

Do you want to share any funny moments or experiences while writing this book, did your characters play well with you?

Did you play well together? The book is set in my home city, and the office building is one I used to work in. There is a character in it, who is based on a manager I used to have. I never intended to draw from real people, but as I introduced them, it just flowed and worked. There is a line that made me laugh as I typed in, in reference to her character. My men, Connor and Jason had their moments, especially Connor, if he didn’t like what I was doing he would sulk. Full on, arms folded over his chest and refusing to talk. He was a lot of fun really.

Give us a little insight into your main characters. Who are they? Connor James is mid twenties, single, and loves his life. He’s used to not having a care about anyone else, and certainly wasn’t looking for anything more than fun. Jason Birch is a self made business man, driven by the desire to succeed. They both have their own quirks, and Connor made me giggle on more than one occasion with his wit and sharp tongue

Will we be seeing these characters again any time soon? Is this book part of a series?

I have a second book planned, and that will be from Jason’s POV, so we’ll get to hear from him and get inside his mind which I’m really looking forward to. He’s already been in my ear at usually 5am demanding I listen.

What scene in your writing has made you laugh the hardest or cry the most?

With Below The Line, it was a conversation about one of the office managers and the fact she has children. Connor says he thought that dragon’s laid eggs. I am working on another story, and that made me cry as there is a scene where following the death of someone, the simple act of their mug being smashed it emotional. That is something that happened to me, so putting it into a novel meant a lot.

Do you write full or part-time?  If part-time would you like to share your job with your readers?

I write part time, as in whenever I can. I work full time, and have been studying for a  professional qualification in my own time, so fitting time to listen to my demanding men has been difficult at times. The day job? I’m a credit risk controller for a motor auction. Not glamorous, but it keeps me busy.

In your opinion do you feel a book blurb or the cover art is more important in generating interest in a book and why?

I think it’s because when you are looking for something to read, it’s true that we DO judge a book by its cover. It has to catch the eye in the mass of books your see online, if something blends in, or looks like everything else then you won’t stop to look any further. A good blurb will grab your attention, I’ve read a lot of blurbs and then bought the book. I need to intrigued – maybe that’s just me.

Are there any causes within the LGBTQ community that are a hot button for you or that you are passionate about?

At the moment, it’s the whole discrimination regarding which toilet (bathroom) you pee in. WHO CARES! People are comparing these people to sex offenders, STOP IT! I worked for bank about 8 years ago and we had a member of staff going through male to female reassignment. We treated her like a woman, and we all complained and took her side when a manager suggested she use the disabled toilets rather than the ladies. To us, she was a woman and only one person made any fuss about it. Personally, I’ve gone into the mens toilets in bars and clubs when the queue for the ladies has been horrendous. Stop discriminating, it’s the 21st century people!

Who would you say is your biggest supporter?

Without a doubt, Nicole Colville. I met her when we worked together and it was one of the biggest blessings in my life. I know without her constant encouragement, cajoling and downright demanding I wouldn’t have made the leap to publish anything. There are other friends who have told me not give up, Matt, Dora, Sheila and Tash to name but a few. These are people I can message when I’m having a mini meltdown and they understand.

In this ever changing market, do you prefer e-books or paper books and why?

I think with e-books you can carry so many with you, on either a phone or Kindle. It’s opened up a whole new world to so many people. There is nothing like holding a real book in your hand though, I have lots of paper books still and will never get rid of them.

What other projects are you currently working on that you would like to divulge to us?

I have a full length novel that I did for Nano-Wri-Mo in 2014 which I am editing and revising, and I also have another novel I am totally in love with, and have the most stunning cover designed by Jay Aheer. That will be published this year, all being well. Then there is the follow up to Below The Line.

Many thanks for sharing with us today.

When the pressure at work rises, so does the passion. Five sweltering shorts to heat up your kindle and set your pulse racing.

Relationships in the workplace sound like a fantasy come true, especially with your sexy boss, but it’s not all hot encounters in the stationary cupboard and stolen kisses over the coffee machine. Being a couple in both you professional and personal world could make it easier to face what life throws at you, but it could also threaten to drive you apart.

Confidential Encounters includes five short stories, each very different in their own way with equally different men, but all have one thing in common… their professional and personal lives are mixing.

Though the passion and the heat is off the charts, can they turn hot encounters at work into something more, or is that a step too far?

BLURBS FOR EACH STORY

The Newcomer: April Wallington

Mailroom worker Dylan finds himself working as a spy when his sleazy boss forces him to infiltrate a rival company. Living with an abusive father, Dylan is stuck in the closet. Unhappy and desperate to find a way out of his lonely life, but too afraid to do anything about it, he meets a man who could give him the confidence to take that leap — his new boss and the man he’s spying on.

As co-owner of his own business, sharing his home and work life with his best friends, Jamie appears to have it all: an active sex life and an expanding company to run, but he’s looking for more. When he meets Dylan, he’s offered that chance. Moving on means big changes for them both, and with Jamie’s private and personal life so closely connected, both question if a relationship will work and how it will affect the people close to them.

 Below The Line: Louisa Mae

 Double Dealing: Nicole Colville

Caught in a messy merger with the mounting pressure to close a multi-million dollar deal, business mogul Ryder Granger finds things are more hostile than the average takeover, but he’s not just interested in acquiring the lucrative Lyon coffee chain. He has an entirely more personal motive hidden beneath his cool exterior and designer suit.

Trace Lyon believes the merger with B&G could be the way out of the closet his strict Southern father keeps him locked in, but there’s one big problem. Ryder Granger is everything Trace wants, and everything his father despises. Two years ago, they shared one incredible night together, but despite the connection and the intense heat, both walked away.

With the deal falling through, Ryder brings an unexpected offer to the table — a more personal type of merger between the two rival families, one Trace is dead against. After all, an arranged marriage in New York in 2016… That could never work out. Taking control in the only way he can, Trace agrees to marry Ryder, but secretly plots to double deal both his father and Ryder. He just has to get this whole absurd wedding out of the way first and ignore how happy Ryder makes him feel.

 Skin Deep: T.A. Reign

Nurse Jai Kapoor lives in the shadows, keeping a barrier firmly in place between himself and the world. Considering himself a freak of nature due to his skin disorder, he hides under layers of clothes, hoping to blend in and become invisible. Lonely, touch-starved, and unable to break out of self-imposed restraints, he keeps his head down and focuses his energy on healing and comforting his patients.

Top of his field in orthopedic surgery, Doctor Lazarus Sukas demands perfection from those who work with him and in his private life. Despite his good looks, his only concern is his job and the patients he operates on, not on a relationship. When an explosive encounter in the operating room brings the two men together, their controlled, lonely lives begin to change. The attraction between them ignites in a firestorm of passion, creating a need so intense, neither can deny.

Beautiful: Laura Raven

With shaggy blond locks, deep green eyes, and a naturally athletic physique, Nathan Finn looks like your quintessential California surfer, but having grown up in Nebraska, he’s never actually been on a board. Like many twenty-somethings in Los Angeles, Nathan and his roommate work together at crappy job in a call center while their band works to hit it big. Sadly, aside from working and the occasional gig, Nathan doesn’t really have much of a life to speak of, and those fleeting moments on stage are the only times he really feels alive. His love life is practically non-existent, and he doesn’t really feel the need to change that.

That is, until a mysterious stranger breezes into the office and wakes him up from his zombie-like existence. Nate’s new co-worker is stunningly beautiful… like, could be a model beautiful — lithe with long black hair, smooth pale skin, and blue eyes you want to swim in. From the moment their eyes meet, Nate wants nothing more than to learn everything there is to know about Skye.

There are questions he’s hesitant to ask, however. Is Skye a man or a woman? And, what does it mean that he doesn’t really care?

Born and bred in the the vibrant city of Leeds in the North of the UK. I’ve always loved reading, and one of my fondest memories from childhood was the weekly visits to the library with my dad. It always seemed such a magical place to escape into through the books I read on a weekly basis.

I’d not really thought about writing in my adult life until I was introduced to the world of Fanfiction and after reading so many I found myself making friends through this new media. My friend, Lori, told me to have a go at writing one, and I did. That work took on a life of its own and opened my eyes to the possibilities. This allowed me to get used to plotting a story and while making the characters my own. I also started to beta/pre read for others and discovered, that much to my surprise, they valued my opinion and input.

Making the move to write M/M or slash as it’s known, took me a little longer. After becoming good friends with a wonderful lady from Illinois  who told me (repeatedly), “You should write slash, I think you’d be good at it.” I shied away from the idea for so long, but the seed was firmly sown in my mind and soon took root and a life of its own. I decided to write a short piece as a surprise gift for Angela’s birthday that year. Emailing it to her, given the time difference between the UK and US this meant I was desperately waiting for her to see in and I think I heard her delighted scream. Thanks to this, and working on writing group competition, I soon found that I preferred writing M/M to M/F.

In 2013 fate intervened and I lost my job. Through my new one, I met Nicole Colvlle,  and the rest, as they say, is history. This marked the start of a beautiful friendship. She encouraged me to make the switch to writing original fiction, and I signed up to Nano Wri Mo 2013, but due to changing jobs I couldn’t commit the time needed. In 2014 I signed up again, and smashed the 50K word goal in 30 days, with a story I love and am proud of.

I’ve been beta reading for Nicole over 17 books now (including the 10 shorts in Knights) and the confidence she inspires in me has been invaluable in my joining this anthology and publishing my first work.

(From Chapter One – Rhys meets his new neighbour)

The outline of a solitary figure appeared through the frosted glass of the front door. Male, I’d say, and short. Could be a kid.

I opened the stiff door with a deliberate jerk. “Yes?”

A man, probably in his mid-to-late thirties, stood before me. Short and slim, wearing long khaki shorts, sandals—no socks, thank God. His tanned hairy legs drew my attention for a few seconds too long. He held a plastic-wrapped plate in his hands with what seemed like cake on it. He looked pleasant enough, good-looking in an old-fashioned sort of way, and smiling a toothy grin not far from my face.

“Hello, I’m from next door.”

He inclined his head to the left. There was only one house next to mine, as my house was situated at the end of the cul-de-sac on a corner plot, so I gathered he was my neighbour.

“I’ve baked you a cake as a welcome gift.” He offered me the plate. “Hope you like lemon drizzle cake.” He smiled again and his eyes twinkled. Beads of perspiration dotted along his forehead. I took the plate from him before the moisture had a chance to run down his face and drip onto my cake. It was a warm and sunny June day, the first we’d seen in the UK for over a week. Typical! The day I moved house the temperature skyrocketed. Sweat dampened my pits and trickled down my back. I’d been shifting heavy boxes and stuff around for hours.

“Mmm… looks great. Thanks.” I breathed in and got a strong whiff of sweet citrus—from the cake rather than him, I hoped. “That’s very kind of you.”

“I’m Philip,” he said, edging closer. “And you’re very welcome.”

“Hi, I’m Rhys,” I said, standing firm. As nice as he appeared, I was reluctant to budge and let a stranger enter my personal domain.

“How are you settling in?” Philip peered around my shoulder and upper arm, a tricky task since I was a good six inches taller than him. “I would have offered to help you unload your car earlier, but I was mixing the cake at the time.”

I made the mistake of turning and glancing at my cluttered hallway.

Fabulous 5* Review from Kathy Mac Reviews/MM Book Escape

stars-five

“Let Your Heart Decide is a beautifully written story of love that is so strong it, literally, consumes your every thought. You try to deny it, you try to run from it, you are hoping that something or a new someone will help you forget, and when that doesn’t work, you realize it may be time to face it and ultimately accept it for what you’ve always known. But, will everyone else accept it? And… does it matter if they don’t?

Rhys and his brother Jake have always had a close relationship. Separated by two years, with Jake being the oldest, Rhys always looked up to his brother. Jake was protective of Rhys but it was more than just big brother looking out for the younger, smaller version of himself. They had a strong bond that pulled them together, and inside their closed bedroom they began to explore and share more of themselves with each other.

13319977_1719497984991436_5164226828934555048_n

It felt right and natural, and to them, it felt normal. For years, the boys touched and shared kisses, but they yearned for so much more. Their need for the other was all-consuming but Rhys was heavily encumbered by guilt, due to outside forces taking notice, that would eventually send him running, and in turn, destroy what was once a powerful and binding bond.

The story opens up two years later with Rhys back and hoping to make amends with his brother. It’s time to face his past and admit, not only to himself but to Jake, why he ran from the one person he loved/loves more than any other human being.

The author sets the scene perfectly alternating between present and past giving the reader a full glimpse into the brother’s childhood, and now as adults. Rhys is constantly visiting his memories of pastimes with Jake and he knows in his heart there will never be another to take his place. Will he be strong enough to lay his burdens down and love his brother as a lover? And, then there is Phillip, his new neighbor, who is definitely flirting, but does he want to fake another relationship?

As Rhys works on welding his life back together the author has spun a supernatural world around Rhys that he tries desperately to figure out, and at the same time, plays with the idea that he is pretty certain he is seeing ghosts. Ghosts? You may wonder if this story just fell off into la-la land, but let me say that the author had me believing and hanging onto every detail.

A very powerful and gripping story where I was consumed by every word the author penned. Some will consider this taboo and not give it the credit it deserves, but in my opinion, this is a perfect reflection of love is love. A bond that is so strong that regardless to where you are you feel the pull and the need to be as close as humanly possible. Your sexual desires cannot be extinguished by any other until the two come together clashing teeth and tongues, pulling and pushing, biting and scratching to get every single piece of each other . I was completely absorbed with these moments and had to say to myself…breathe.

I was enamored with this story and read it from start to finish and then I went back and reread parts that I highlighted as I went along. I was not ready to say goodbye and leave these two behind. The author includes secondary characters that are just as vibrant and funny, adding another level of enjoyment that complemented this beautiful tale.

Read this story that, at its core, is about true love, soul-mates, and a love so powerful that until the two are joined they will not know peace and happiness. Past and present lives merge in this captivating story leaving you with a smile on your face, joy in your heart, and breathless with the intensity.”
